We are getting our first service tomorrow. My wife was telling me it will be $254.00 and that the next one will be around $500.00. She told me that the price will alternate between the high and the low each time.

Well here is the beakdown;
Total cost including taxes was $337.97
Total time just under 2 hours

"A Perform Maintenance Service" (they mean Labour) $168.68 its $350+tax/hr
000-180-26-09 Oil Filter $ 25.05
000-989-25-45-12 Fuel Additives (God Knows?) $12.47
ZZ800-986-10-56 W/W Fluid (windshild wash?) $ 4.25

Now here is the true killer
Lube Synthetic Oil
CSC $ 84.00 its 8 litres or $ 10.50/litre

For all of you suffering that Liftgate trouble there is a service code

B 2009120002 Check Liftgate for paint damage and adjust stip buffer of liftgate
Cause: Perform service action 200912002
026672 Adjust stop buffer at liftgate
339 W 0.10 N/C
Fc: Part# Count:
Claim Type: A
Auth Code: 074920378

Since I never had a complaint or mentioned this I assume its a Charge Back to MB that the dealers do/charge anyway. I double checked it before I drove off, fixing when it ain't broke is not a good idea.

The did get the GLK back when they said and they washed it and even sprayed out my non MB winter car mats.

I did get a bonus, I heard this sound rattling around in the trunk?
I am not sure why I did not see it before. The left me a 1/2 jug of windshield washer fluid.

So the final breakdown is as follows;

Parts $ 41.77 Labour: $ 168.68 Other: $ 84.00 guess its too embrassing to say oil Environmental Recycling charge $ 5.00 (Ya right) Taxes $ 38.52 Damages $337.97 ( I should be outraged but I was told before I went into this brand so strangely enough I am not upset) I did ask if they check all the normal things like breaks etc, they said they did but I dont think they ever took off the wheels, I could see my GLK from the waiting area, now its true that Tiger Woods did distract me for like 15 min

This is all in Canadian $ and not sure how it would translate to USA service type A

Thumbs up

Has anyone in the southeast US had their A service done and at what cost out the door? I'm trying to see if regional pricing exists. I'm also interested in what an oil change and tire rotation @ 5000 miles only costs.

The 5,000 mile tire rotation is free.. It's the only freebie you get with the car...

yea no free oil change at 5k.

I just got ad from my dealer

Pricing varies by model...whatever that means

Never thought there was anything special about an oil change and tire rotation. Bought my own Mobil 1 0-40W brought it to my garage had him supply the oil filter. My cost for oil $6.29 per qt his charge $20.00 US. I got the reset codes from this web site and saved enough for a real nice dinner. Not to be cheap but give me a break oil change and tire rotation.

The oil you (CHillGLK) used does not meet the specs for the GLK.
It probably won't hurt, but if MB wanted to be tough about it...........

I'm not sure a follow (RedRover) The dealership selected the oil. Why would they use something that didn't meet the specs?

We had such a bad experience at our MB dealer today that we went back to Lexus. OUr MB salesman aside, no more MB for us. I will miss the GLK but my wife, the main driver of her new '10 RX350 will be back in her zone. We always had positive service at the Lexus side. I got my new MINI on Thursday and she got her new car today, just a few hours after getting our GLK form "service". Our Lexus dealer, who has sold us 3 RX now, warned us when we went with MB. He told us we would be back are we are.

If it says it meets MB spec 229.5 then it meets the spec.
If it doesn't, it doesn't.
I don't think you can get this spec oil for $6.29 Qt.
I have no idea why a Dealer would reco an oil that doesn't meet the spec.
BTW the viscosity is supposed to be 5W-40.....

Understand that I am not criticizing you.
I am merely telling you what the spec is.

I wanted an MB hitch installed... after being quoted $2,100 from one MB dealership and $3,300 from the other MB dealership in my city... I expect the exact same pricing discrepancy with the service work... scammers.

Does anyone know if licensed european auto shops can do the service work without it messing with the warranty??

200-500$ per year in maintenance costs is not that big of a deal. Prolly will get some of it back at resale for having documented service history.

One more thing, the service guy asked me if I had my Maintenance scheudule, I did not know there was one but I told him the GLK manuals are in the vehicle. He then asked if they were in the glove box, so I had the opportunity to say you know it does not fit in there but that I keep it on the passenger door storage bin

I made a mistake on the Labour cost. Its acutally $ 129.75/hr and my milage was 20,281 Km when I took it in.

Here's a complete listing of MB spec 229.5 oils for numerous countries put out by MB on 2/4/10. What type of engine (designation) is the GLK 350?

Some of the later ones are more in the $1,000 range .... don't kid yourself, owning a MB has always come with high maintenance costs... I am sure the GLK will not be the exception!

^^^you alternate between A and B every 10k and have more expensive ones every 40k. Refer to the sticky on this forum.

MB have decreased their maitanace costs in the recent past.

The price at Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts, and O'Reilly's is 6.99 a quart (Mobil 1 formula 0-40w synthetic) . It meets MB 229.5 specs and used by the European Automotive garages in the area. They don't seem to have 5W-40 and not sure if they can even order it.

Had my Service A done in Atlanta yesterday -- normal price was $250 for the service, but my dealership had an online coupon I printed so my price for the service was $140 -- not too bad. They found a leak in my washer fluid reservoir and replaced it -- but 5 hours later the washer fluid leaked out again -- so I'll be going back again later in the week.
