20" wheels

Hi All,

Looking for the width on the Mercedes-Benz 20" wheels that come as optional equipment on the GLK. More specifically, my GLK has 235-45-20 tires on it. Can I put 245-45-20's on it?

TIA,

Bob Ryan

I would think the 245- 45- 20 would be a bit taller and wider and might rub somewhere. It would be nice to have a wider tire to protect the rim a bit!

I found it...

235-45-20, Tire height is 28.3 "
245-45-20, Tire height is 28.7 "

The side wall height goes from 4.2 to 4.3, but I don't know how close the space is between the fenders. I would think if you went any wider, the side of the GLK would get sprayed with road grime even more than it does now!

rim is 8 inches wide, it'll fit even 255 (255/40/20 should be very close in overall diameter) the problem is wheather it clears the strut holder in front.

I approached Pirellis for 245x50xR20 as here in the gulf 235x45xR20s are non-standard and if you do get them, they cost a bomb. This would have meant that ofcourse other than the tyre being wider the wheels would be taller by roughly 17mm. Having visually checked the clearance (rotating the front wheels to 45 degrees till the edge of wheel comes close to the inside fender, it looks like I have 35-40mm of clearance.

Whats bothers me is the rating of the wheels. My current wheels have are 235x45xR20 100W in front .. W signifying the maximum speed of 270kmph whereas the 245x50xR20 is 102H .. H signifying the top speed of 210kmph. (Not that I have a heavy foot but still bothers me)

Furthermore, Pirelli said that I need to get special permission from MB stating that fixing on this larger size of wheels will not void my warranty or create any other problems!

I like the idea of having all 4 wheels of the same size for proper tyre rotation.

you should be alright with a 245-45-20. my 22's are 255-35-22 and the overall diameter is 29.0in. 1.3 inches larger than the 245-45-20 i originally tried running 265-35-22, they cleared the strut but rubbed the inner wheel well when fully turned.
