Bigger tires?

Is anyone using bigger tires on their 20" wheels. I was planning on using 245 50 20. Does anyone know if this is ok?

Thank you

Why...? They'll fit but they'll throw off the speedo.

I think a 245-40-20, or 255-40-20 would be the same size diameter, just a bit wider. It wouldn't throw out the speedo, but may rub when you turn the steering wheel.

The 245-40 has a diameter of 27.7 inches
The 255-40 has a diameter of 28.0 inches

This is a difference of 1.1%

If you use the 255-40 when your speedometer reads 60MPH, you will actually be traveling 60.7MPH.

Tires

I was at the dealer today checking on my delivery date, they had three GLK350 in with the AMG Wheels and body package, There are two diffrent sets of tires on the car...245/40/20 and 245/35/20. so we know now they cannot be rotated. My understanding was that Merceded did this for the high speed handeling in Germany, I asked the head of service with his top mechanic, and he advised never to fool with the sizes because of the way the handeling was calibrated, also the AMG wheel with these tires also caused a slight adjustmemt from the factory in the cars suspension.

While I was at the dealer and since my friend is on the higher ups, we took out a plane jane 350 with 20,s and went on what we call the "Turnpike" in S Florida.. we were tooling around at 117 mph and there was no wind noise but the car did have what felt like a slight sway to it,also it had more power to run. I am use to (Infinity's)..anyhow we proceeded to get off of an exit that was marked exit speed 35mph and we were doing 80mph and the car was like glue to the road. So this was my fooling around test with a dealers car.. Last I was advised to change oil at least every 5000 miles even though it says 10000, and not to worry about breakiung the GLK in.."Drive like who you are" is what I was told.

Bottom line.......... I wouldn't use the size you were planning to go with if I were you.

Thank you all for your responses. The reason I was trying to go for bigger tires was due to DAMN POT HOLES..The standard size tires on the 20" rims can certainly use some extra meat. Love my truck but the tires are, it's weakest link...

Kinda defeats the purpose of 20 inch rims. Somebody should have thought of 17 inch rims with "extra meat" tires (taller rubber). Oh, wait a minute, they already did. Silly me...

The tires are the weakest link. Riiiiiiiiiight...

Fur shure. I was thinking of going with 24's with big rubber but then I realized my GLK would have five flywheels instead of just one.

235/50-20 will have even more clearance, but there are not a lot of choices in that size.

Reporting in with 235/50/20 cross climate 2 installed. The ride is amazing and soft, I'm convinced this is an ideal size for x204

Oh, that looks meaty! I had 245/45/20 Firestone tires as my summer set and they were great, with plenty of clearance struts/shocks in a wheel well.

There's an occasional rubbing when turning all the way and going to an elevated surface, but the looks and comfort are well worth it

I bought 255/45/20 Kumho PA51 tires last year and they fit without issue.

But I hate it. The ride is too firm for Quebec roads and you can feel everything, especially with the worn down (+220 000km) original suspension. I just bought new wheels and tires, and I am switching back to higer profile tires.

Also, I noticed a 10-15% increase in fuel consumption with the 255 compared to my narrower winter tires. So what's the point ?
