Vent under front seats

There is a vent under each of the front seats. Does anyone know where this vent lead to ? I had a small wrench that went into this vent and I don't know how to get it out ....... someone help.

are those air vents that blow out hot air for back seats on the floor? just a guess, I haven't seen them.

I think they blow out hot / cold air. I need to get the tool out before it does more damage to the truck......hope it just sits somewhere. I'll have to call MB tomorrow. Or if someone knows how to take it apart, let me know. Thanks.

Update: I called MB today and they want me to bring it in. They said if the tool goes in too far, they might have to remove the back seats to get it out (sounds like alot of money for labour).

I took my flashlight and try to get it out myself. Firstly, the vent goes towards the front of the car and it turns slightly to the right, it does not go towards back of the car ( MB is BS about removing the back seats). I can see the tool wedged in about 16inches, where the bend starts. For an hour, I tried to fish it out with a magnet, coat hanger etc.....no luck. I thought to myself, if I step on the gas hard......will the tool slide back out. I drove around the block and stepped on it hard x 4......the tool slid out. Yeah.

In my opinion, this is a really bad design of where the vent is. I will wrap the vent with some mesh, to prevent anything from going in again. MB should notify customers about the vent, I am sure alot of kids toys will end up in the vent.

good call. i agree about that statement. and yeah, as you figured it out, it's the air vent that leads to the back which is in addition to the one that sits in between the driver and passenger seat. one comment i've had from my back seat passengers, is that it's COLD in the back. sometimes i've had to turn the fan on pretty high (level 4 or 5) to get some good airflow in the back. the only problem with this is how hot it gets in the front by then

Absolute life saver. Sons toy drill bit of course went straight into the vent. Had to launch it around the block a few times and try to get the drill bit vertical. Eventually came out. Surprised no one has printed a 3d vent/cover thing for them!

Fourteen year old thread...

Anything that goes into those vents isn't going to do any harm, unless maybe if it's a burning cigarette...
