Help, is this an issue about brake

I just got my GLK two weeks ago. My first MB, love it. But yesterday after I stopped for the red light, I released the brake pedal and then tried to step on it again, I wasn't able to press the brake at all, the pedal was locked(at the up position). The car didn't move, until I hit the gas after the light turned green. Then brake worked normally again.

Is this an issue, or by design? I am able to reproduce this situation later on again. Do I need a trip to the dealer? Thanks.

Sounds odd... do you normally *pump* your brakes? This does drain the vacuum from the brake booster and can give you the feeling you describe... otherwise a trip to your dealer may be in order.

Although your description doesn't exactly match how the "Brake Assist System (BAS)" works/behaves, the BAS kicks in if you apply the brakes very quickly. Note the "GLK Operators manual". It depends on how you entered the red light and applied the brakes, and how quickly you pressed the brake pedal when you reproduced the situation.

Another driving system of the GLK is the "Hill-start assist system". Again, from the manual: "On uphill grades, the hill-start assist system maintains the pressure in the brake system for approximately 1 second after you have
released the brake pedal. Therefore, you can start off smoothly without the vehicle moving immediately after releasing the brake pedal."

As well does this one not match your described situation exactly, however might design like this be a little confusing, as you got the GLK only a short while ago, rather the being an issue.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think the way I hit on the brake was hard or sudden. Since it only happens in uphill situation, yes it might related to BAS. But I will bring it in to the dealer to confirm.

It is confirmed that yes it is the BAS. Not an issue.
