Aftermarket electronics installation experience?

Aftermarket electronics installation experience?
I asked my local car audio shop about hooking up my GPS tracking device to the door unlock system. (The GPS unit has an output that triggers when you send it an SMS and can be used to unlock a door). He said he would use an "xPressKit" module, which can then be used for things like this.
But he also mentioned that merc likes to blame everything on aftermarket installs and void warranties.
Scared me enough to give up on the idea and just call road service the next time I (read: "wife") locks the keys in the car.
Just wondering if anyone has had warranty problems with aftermarket mods or xPressKit in particular.

You might have to fight, but federal warranty law says that if they decline warranty service, the shop has to prove that the aftermarket add-on caused the problem.
I am not a lawyer.
Lots of information about the Magnuson-Moss act at this link, and at wikipedia.
I had an aftermarket stereo/gps system installed in my previous car (Cadillac XLR). Subsequent electronics problems with the car (and there were many, believe me) were still handled under warranty. Just don't let the service guys jerk you around.

my experience with service mangers is this...engine mods void warranty, they dont recommend this and don't like that. At the end of the day, if they reach $3000 in revenue, job done.
