F18Ben, curious as to what you will be getting; software only? Per our discussion on a different thread I'm wondering if this update would fix my east/west street issue. I'm thinking it's a map issue and not an application issue. Doesn't this seem like something that should be covered under warranty.
Anybody know how easy it would be to add the camera feature to UMI?
Our other MB's all seem to have secret codes (command versions)... has anybody discovered hacks for UMI. Not that I ever did much with command.

Newer maps are listed as being included in the update.
However, from what I recall it didn't say which version/date. I do seem to recall that the GLK may already have the latest ones released for the US, but don't have a link. So it may get you newer maps than came with a couple of year old C-class, for example, but may not help the maps in the GLK. IIRC the latest version I saw was from late 2009 and I couldn't find a reference to 2010 maps being released.
Also something I read on a European M-B site regarding the UMI update seemed to indicate that it might just be newer European maps (not US ones), but it may have been a discussion for a Europe-specific UMI update, if there is such a thing.
Look forward to any info from F18Ben on that.
As far as warranty coverage for that, I saw that Europe also got 3 years of free map updates per an M-B press release. This seemed to be due to people complaining about buying expensive cars and then being charged for maps every year. This may have been for the E-class IIRC. With a few options you can get the GLK somewhat near E pricing territory...

I upgraded the UMI. Graphics are superior and response time is faster. POI includes latest Zagats guide. Now for the problem. I no longer have TMC (live traffic). Going to dealer today. It's supposed to have live traffic. I'll let you know the outcome.

UMI update issue
Now I have a conflict between the dealer, MB USA corporate and Sirius. As I said earlier I lost the live traffic updates TMC feature on the UMI. Dealer claims it's a Sirius issue. Sirius claims they have nothing to do with the live traffic updates for the UMI. They are willing to sell me a similar feature. MB USA corporate claims I'm entitled to live traffic Free for life of vehicle as printed in the brochure. The UMI that mercedes uses is from a private vendor and MB really doesn't fully understand how it works. Will let you know how this ends up, meanwhile I'm putting wear and tear on my loaner car.....![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)

I finally got somewhat of an answer to the problem. As it stands now if you update the UMI Nav system you lose lifetime traffic. Mercedes is aware of the problem and hopefully will come out with a fix for it in the next few weeks. The service manager and Mercedes Corporate really tried their best to solve this problem. I am confident that they will resolve the the issue..

So.......does the free traffic for life only come with the UMI vs COMAND? When I activated my Sirius account a year and a half ago they told me that I was not entitled to the traffic update which would lead me to believe that Sirius does have something to do with it. I have a Garmin Nuvi. When I got it there was no traffic on it for about 6 months and then all of a sudden it just appeared. It is somewhat useful but not always accurate.

Free traffic for life is a feature only on the UMI. Sirius does offer it also but they charge for it. The traffic feature is only available in major metropolitan areas,.

I only have the old update part number that gave me a problem. They needed a separate flash update that the dealer put in to correct it. I will be happy to give you the first update flash part # but I'm sure they must have a complete new one by now..

Hi F18BEN,
I have a GLK350 (2010) with the (what I assume to be) old UMI + Audio 20 that did not have the Nav upgrade.
From your posts am I correct in understanding that part number A204 8707696 will update my UMI to include the navigation function? When you updated your UMI, did you simply plug in the USB stick while the car was running to update?
Any help is appreciated... and thank you!

I was on the original UMI software. My system used to say "Universal Media Interface" when it booted up. Now it says "Audio 20 Navigation". Graphics don't seem that much better, but the responsiveness is WAY better. Light and day.
Nice upgrade for $200.
The only terrible thing about the UMI Nav option is that the directions are not muted when using bluetooth telephony or the radio is on.

I'm a Noobie, as I just purchased a 2011 GLK.. Premium package, no Nav! I believe I have the audio 20 along with MP3 imput in glove box. I'll assume that UMI is an additional upgrade that will provide Nav within the 5" screen??? Will this 'upgrade' also provide opportunity to connect a rear view camera? Where is this USB stick recepticle? The camera feature on my last Murano was great. I'm enjoying my 'almost' new GLK, but am waiting for some manuals to explain more fully all the operations this vehicle provides. Original manuals were in French and not much help!
