Looking to buy 2010 GLK, does it have navigation?

I am looking at buying a used GLK for my daughter. I am uncertain if the one I am looking at has navigation. According to the owner he has seen it work in his car but never used it and is not very technical. The car has feature 079 but I can't tell if that is just a prewire option for Navigation or what. From reading the posts it looks like there are two types of Navigation but after sitting in the car and playing with the buttons I can't see a navigation menu. I went to the dealer and sat in a new one with Nav and I noticed there is a NAVI button. The one I'm looking at has a TONE button but no NAVI. Any ideas?

I believe you have UMI navigation. Hold down the CLEAR button just to the right of the mouse. The NAV screen should appear. It's weird but that's how you access the navigation. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Use the Command dial to scroll to navi.... if it's not there, the car doesn't have it.

The question should be why is the car up for sale.... have it inspected.... get a CARFAX report etc.

MBRedux - that works if the car is equipped with COMAND. UMI is an alternative to COMAND, basically to retrofit Nav to cars with the standard (non-COMAND) radio unit.

F18BEN is right for non-COMAND-equipped cars.

If the guy you are looking to buy it from doesn't know make sure you are not paying a premium for it. Go to KBB.com or similar site to get an idea of what the car is worth. UMI has 5" screen Comand has 7 " screen. Many people would tell you that MB NAV is not that is not that great. I have Comand and I also have a Garmin Nuvi that I use when I rent a car and travel. Garmin hands down more intuitive and more features. Don't let the lack of Navi dissuade if if it is a good car.

Thanks F18BEN! You have the most logical explanation. I purchased the car today. I would have bought it w/o NAV but I'm glad to hear it has one. I'll learn more about it later but haven't tried it yet (no doubt it works).

Price was $31k, 5k miles, everything checks out, beautiful condition, looks as good as new. Has the premium package (pano, 20" wheels, etc), MultiMedia package and a few other options ...none of which I needed but it helps when she wants to sell it later.

It is a graduation gift and my goal was to buy a car that she could have for 8 years. Considering her previous Benz lasted her through high school and college we thought this was an OK direction.

Can anybody comment if the GLK has a cargo screen that pulls up in the back to keep animals in the back? I just assumed all wagons have this feature but I can't remember seeing it.

Thanks guys!

There really is - for some of us , note the GLK Operator's Manual:
.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalAssets/pdfmb/ownersmanual/2010_glk.pdf,
page 191, Cargo net (Canada only).

Actually, does it go with other deliveries as well, and the net is in our GLK stored in a slot of the "storage compartment" in the cargo compartment, see page 260. So it depends on in which part of this wonderful world you are living, and if not lucky the MB dealer may confirm that it can be supplied and retrofitted. That will depend whether "holders" as required are available in your daughter's GLK.

Takes a little getting use too...

F18BEN, If you see this.... wondering what you do if your street/address is not in the system. We live on a street that has an east and west. The navigation defaults to the West while we are at the east. I tried entering "E" or "east" but it didn't have/allow for that option. I'm also curious of other options the car might have with UMI: Voice or ??? Also having difficulty adding names to the phone book. I don't think that my phone has a vcard option. Anyway, I'm training myself before handing it over. Thanks in advance.

jroach---- I will play with my UMI navigation tomorrow and get back to you. Also no voice commands with the UMI and the phone book will not work with an iPhone..

Keep in mind from a security perspective it is not a good idea to put your home location into the system as a favorite. If for some reason the car is stolen you don't want the car showing up at your house especially if you have the garage door opener programed into the the car. Better idea would be to put a location in that is a few blocks or miles away but usually on the way.

Navigation..East meets ???

F18Ben...Thanks. I did notice some streets that had East and West but for our street....over 100 years old, there was just the street name.

MkenM, I agree. Funny story that you can relate too....a few years back I was buying a car using a broker. They ID'ed the car, brought it too me and also mentioned (like it would make me pay more) that the current owner was a very well know personality. When I flicked through the navigation screens I could see her home address, Doctor, and I'm assuming friends, some of which I recognized by name. If the car is stolen or your selling....it's another thing we need to clean. Didn't get that car BTW or else I would have called TMZ (smile).

Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode where George bought a car he thought belonged to Jon Voight? He could have saved himself some time if it had a fully-loaded contacts list in the computer :-)
