New 2011 GLK, sometimes clunky shifting?

Just got my wife a new 2011 palladium silver glk RWD this past weekend. I am noticing that sometimes, the shifting isn't nearly as smooth as some auto slushboxes out there... sometimes, i feel like it's gets confused up-shifting so fast. Also, on occasion when I let go of the gas at the same time it shifted, it kind of clunks. Is this normal behavior? is it maybe my driving style since I tend to help out the shifting by lifting on the accelerator when I feel that it's ready to be shifted? All in all though, I think this is a great little SUV. Very sporty feeling and very responsive in corners. Cheers.

It may be your driving style. Haven't had problem with our '11 GLK

Are you breaking in the car by driving in C mode? If it is still clunky have the service department re-flash the tranny. your car might have been driven by other prospective buyers and they might have all driven the car differently which confused the tranny.

The dealer did a reset on ours since I wasn't entirely happy with its behavior in first gear. e.g.- from a standing stop, shifting from R to D, and from a stop on a hill.

The dealer SA told me the transmission has 3 modes: cold, warm, and hot. He said they reset all 3 profiles to factory, since it adapts to your driving style (as gsrjc said).

My guess is it is trying to adapt to both my wife's style as well as mine, and they are radically different. Other than driving her old car and this one, I have only owned manuals. I think the transmission senses my preference and resents me for it.

In any event, it seems much better now.

Thanks for all the replies... I believe you guys are right and that it is my driving style and that it is adapting/learning it. I guess I was babying it too much the 1st couple of days but since then, I have been driving it normally and it seems that it is now quite comfortable with my style..... Cheers... here's a pic of my our new stallion...

Hi iride, Give it a week or two to see if it adapts to you, and if not see if the dealer will do the same reset they did for ours. It helped quite a bit.

Looks great asaulo1. That was our other choice in color and looks great on the car. (We went with white.)

My mom has a 2010 and i've felt a few problems. When its cold it stays in 1st gear for quite a while when you slowly accelerate, you get the feeling like ok shift already. When your cruising slow and it shift sometimes it clunks and you feel a hard gear change. And sometimes at speeds like at 30 mph it again hesitates to up shift and you can feel the rpms are 'high'. When the first service comes around going to tell them to reflash it. Also theres a relatively large delay when switching from R to D, where the car wont let you accelerate.
