About to order 2011 GLK with AMG

I'm on the West Coast and have test driven the stock GLK.
The only 2011 GLK available with the color and options I want has the AMG package which I'm not too keen on as I think the stock looks better IMHO.
Could anyone on the forum with the AMG package tell me how differently it handles from the stock and apart from the skid plates, LED fog lights and mesh grilles how else is it different?
The best the dealer is able to do was invoice+$1000, is this a good deal?
I wanted Iridium+Black MBTex, P1, MM, Lighting package and heated seats and this has in addition, AMG and MBrace.
Thanks.

Hi dockhan,

Mine doesn't have the AMG package so I can't add anything to that discussion.

But you may want to check out these threads for the purchase price and the 2010 vs 2011 differences, which includes some info on the AMG package:

Thanks Miles,
I've read just about every thread on this very enlightening forum.
Benzonly says the GLK with the AMG handles more precisely and the ride is much stiffer and recommends a test drive before buying.
With no nearby dealerships with the GLK AMG in stock, I was hoping that members with the AMG package could give me a bit of insight into the handling before I take the leap.

I guess I thought the AMG package was mostly styling, and not different suspensions parts? I'm not sure since I haven't checked these out at the dealer yet.

The shorter sidewalls on the tires will make it ride a bit stiffer, though not badly so. Ours has the optional 20" wheels which should have about the same tires on it. It make the car feel better; not too stiff.

AMG PACKAGE

I HAVE THE COMPLETE AMG PACKAGE, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN HANDELING, IT IS ALL COSMETIC!!! THE 20 INCHAMG WHELS AND THE PIRELLI SCORPIONS MAKE A LITTLE STIFER RIDE..OTHER THEN THAT IT IS THE SAME...MINE HAS SOME RENNTECH WORK TO THE CPU FOR QUICKER SHIFTING AND 22 MORE HORSE POWER!

Thanks,
Just what I wanted to hear as I've already ordered it, should be arriving in 2 weeks. We should compare impressions when it arrives.

Enjoy it in my opinion and people who have the stock 350's they like the look of the AMG...much more sporty...be careful how you park.the wheels stick out from the tires and scratching wheels are very easy..good luck..

congrats on your order and as geminidan said, take care of those rims, esp during parallel parking and by ATM/Paking garage entrances.

Thank you both for the advice regarding the wheels.
I've been saving up for this vehicle for a while.
I plan to keep my 2006 Honda Pilot to tow my boat.
Do you think invoice plus $1000 is a decent deal for a 2011 GLK ?

invoice plus 1k seems a bit high. When GLK came out it was selling for invoice, and a few ppl were able to get it under invoice. That was over a year ago tho. Times could have changed, MB was slowing the production to keep prices higher. Also depends on your location and dealership. If you have more dealerships around, shoot them an email and see what they can offer.

End of the month also seems to be good time to negotiate (and esp. end of the quarter/year) as dealers are trying to meet their quotas. The car your dealer is offering is pretty loaded and expensive, those are not easy to sell, so you should try to push harder.

Also are you taking MB financing? Also does MM include premium sound? It seems that on mbusa site logic7 is option you have to get in addition to MM package.

I plan on buying cash but I'll only indicate this at the last minute. I think prices are a bit higher here in WA State and I'll try to have the dealer throw in an accessory or two such as mud guards.
Regarding the premium sound, from what I've read here it doesn't seem to be worth the $1000 upgrade and I'm no audiophile.
BTW, I saw your pics, beautiful vehicle! I wish I had one when I lived in NYC 8 yrs. ago

yea when I got mine, logic7 was part of MM, so wanted to make sure you are not getting MM for the premium sound. Can't comment if premium sound worth it or not as I haven't heard stock one, and I listen to radio.

Thanks for compliments, I'm sure your car is gonna look just as nice if not better with AMG bumpers and rims.
