Winter wheels

I'm just about to order a set of 17" winter tires and rims from Tire Rack. They are Elbrus twin 5 spoke with the black finish, and I'll be getting Blizzack WS70's.

I like the design of these rims, they look similar to the stock 20" only with black inside and silver spokes, and I hear the mercedes center caps will fit.

I can't believe how cheap their prices are compared to what we have to pay in Canada. The dealership in Calgary wants $3600 CDN for 17" tires and rims, and these will be less than $1500 CDN shipped to my door!

There is no issue with brake calliper clearance with 17" rims is there?

Tire Rack links do not work... you need to post the pix directly. Yes the brakes will fit (they're meant for 17's anyway... they are too small for 20" wheels IMO).

I just ordered the ASA GT1 with blizzack. It should arrive tomorrow. They are way cheaper than the dealer. I looked at you wheel too but I changed my mind in the last minute to order the ASA GT1.I heard ASA is good quality wheel and I hope it is the case. The blizzack tire is the best and you can't go wrong with that.

They are the same rims, but the black finish.

Very nice!!

I went with 18" Benz rep (m10?)

As for the tires, I chose Hankook Ipikes... Not bad for the price!

I live an an area in the Pacific NorthWest that sees mostly light snow and some ice in winter. The GLK I've ordered has the AMG styling with the 20" wheels, I'm not sure which tires I'll come with. Can some members with 20" wheels comment on whether winter tires are necessary in these circumstances?
I do have a AWD 2006 Honda Pilot SUV with all season tires as backup if needed for heavier snowfalls.
Thanks.

it all depends where and how you drive. I took the car on 20's in snow storms and plowing through deep snow was no problem. Of course you gotta be careful with 20's as you never know what's under snow.

However, going 50-60mph on snow covered road wasn't fun, as car wondered time to time. All-seasons are no substitute if you drive on snow packed roads. For occasional snow, stock 20's are fine as long as you use common sense.

The final price for my winter rims and tires delivered mounted balanced all taxes and duties was $1450 CDN. The same price as JUST the Blizzacks (235-60R17) would cost me in Calgary! Unreal!
I'll post some pictures when I get them on the GLK.

I am thinking of ordering the 18's from Tire Rack...

I wanted more tire sidewall, plus they were cheaper! I liked the Elbrus rims as well!
It just warmed up here, now I can't put the winter tires on until it gets cold again!

I'm in Vancouver, Canada.
What duties, taxes, Brokerage fees did you have to pay?
Is the $1450 including everything?

Thanks

Placed my order today.
My price came out to $1470 USD (incls shipping, duties, brokage and taxes)
Not sure how you got $1450 CDN.
I order the WS70 with Elbrus I05.
I really like the Elbrus I06 but wanted something easy to clean.

The exchange rate was a bit better, the CDN dollar has gone down a bit.

I just got my wheel and tires yesterday.
Order on the 25th and got it on the 30th....that's quick.

I don't like the center caps that came with the Elbrus I05.
Will any 75mm center caps fit on the wheel?

I've been looking at the Mercedes Black center Caps but not sure why the price difference from ForMyMercedes.com and ebay.

http://www.formymercedes.com/morepic...athStar_M1.jpg

ebay has them for 29.99 while ForMyMercedes is priced at 69.00.
What's the difference? Are there quality difference?
