Water pooling at base of windshield?

I washed my GLK this past weekend. And I noticed that there seems to be a rather sizable amount of water that pools at the corners of the base of the windshield. Anyone else seen this?

I mean it does disappear eventually but it'll take a good while to go down, especially on the driver's side. Is there something in my drainage on that side that might be caught in there?

I didn't see anything when I was washing the windshield there.

So no one else has experienced this? I wonder if something is wrong with mine. It's still almost new. I've washed it another time or two and noticed the same thing. There are two drainage vents on the far corners of the windshield base. I checked those and nothing seems to be stuck in there. But the water doesn't exactly go down either.

Is it possible something was missed during final prep?

I don't think the water should sit there for that long. 30+ minutes and it's still there.

i think pics would help to visiualize. When I spray the car with water I haven't noticed any abnormal amounts of water anywhere.

The drainage could possibly be stuck under as I've had to wash stuff down it before cuz stuff gets stuck on the top mesh

I'll try and take some pics this weekend. NYCGLK if you look at the base of the windshield there are two little plastic mesh screens on either end of the windshield. One on the driver and one on the passenger corners. They're basically under the trailing lip of the hood where the wipers are, but on the far ends. For some reason when I've washed my car water seems to just sit there at each corner.

How would one clean out the stuff under the top mesh? I don't see an easy way to do this. Just spray the hose directly at the mesh?

yeah try spraying a hose directly at the mesh and see if it forces stuff out from underneath, else you'll prob have to bring it back to the dealership and tell em to lift it up and clear from underneath

I washed my car yesterday and see what place you are talking about. However, water was draining perfectly fine. Maybe something is stuck under the opennings. Did you figure it out?

I noticed these screens/mesh also. They come out very easy, at least at my car. I tried to remove some needles which got stuck in the mesh.
Maybe something got stuck down this tube (or both tubes).

...but it drains fine.

Yes, these screens are removable for this reason. Most likely some type of debris, old rotted leaves, dirt, etc. got under the mesh and clogged the drain holes. Trying to force or blast the drain holes open may force the dirt deeper in. So I would first open the mesh, look in there and etermine what's stopping the water from going down. Clean the area and then check for proper drainage by pouring a cup of water in there to see why it's not going down. Then report back, with pics if possible.

Good luck

Didn't realize that they were removable. So I'll pop them off and see if I can get what ever is in there. That's a good tip. Thanks.

I'll report back on what's going on afterwards.

Hmmm.. I tried removing the screen but no go on my car. It looks like it is sealed as part of the windshield base cover. I'll pop the hood tonight and see if there's access another way.

Sorry iewoals, wrong car, my bad. On the GLK these screens are not removable. However, down in the far L&R corners of the plastic windshield cover plate are two small screen-like drains. If these are not clogged up, then all should be okay. But if they are clear and water is still pooling in *these* areas, then you will need to remove both wiper arm assemblies, (make sure you mark their positions) and then the plastic cover plate to see why this is happening... or you can simply pay the dealer a visit. Hint: Take a gallon of H2O with you to demonstrate the problem.

Yup, probably time to bring it up with the dealer. The screens are clear as far as I can tell. There must be something underneath that is clogging the drainage.

You are right, these are not removable. I was thinking about the little mesh which you get access to when you open the hood.
Sorry for the confusion.

Dealer: good idea.

Red face

this is embarrassing

There is no removable mesh. I mixed it up with my other car also.

(...this happens when you try to "recall" things. Shouldn't be done
as of a certain age )

Sorry for the confusion.
