GLK Bluetec coming!
Maybe i should get another GLK with diesel and be like DUAL GLKS when the garage opens lol
The only benefit is higher towing and better range per tank. What else am I missing?
diesel engines are also supposedly more durable as they have to make it stronger.
Its air compression then high pressure diesel spray cycles. There are no spark plugs, just high pressure pumps (which in general lasts quite long). Theres also probably more complete combustion in diesel than petrol engines (trying to recall my motor boat mechanical lectures)
I dont see them possibly placing a super high premium on em especially looking at the ML320 Bluetec's pricing. The tax might also be different from place to place with regards to diesel.

When I researched MB Bluetec diesels such as the ML320 I found that they only came with run-flat tires. A MB salesman explained that the 4-6 gallon tank for adBlue fluid is fitted in the spare tire chamber.
Now some folks have no issues with run flat tires but it is certainly is an issue for those of us living rurally. I was attracted to the BMW 335D until I found that BMW eliminated the spare tire compartment in all of the 3 series vehicles. The BMW X5 can be ordered with a spare tire and I just inspected the new 2011 X3 at a regional auto show. The USA does not get the diesel X3 in 2011. I could not tell from lifting the rear compartment floor panel if a spare tire chamber was hidden below. The BMW website did not list a spare tire option in the build your own section.
The 2011 X3 is #2 on my new car shopping list. A 2012 GLK with one the yet to be introduced V-60 degree 6 cyllinder petrol engines might be almost as fuel efficient as the upcoming Bluetek version.
Perhaps our Norwegian list member can tell us if his Blue efficiency GLK has the adBlue tank and where it is located.
As said in another discussion on the subject, is the cargo compartment of the ML 350 BlueTEC 4Matic 500 l, wheras it is 551 l for ML 350 4Matic - meaning that the GLK could "lose" another 50 liter of its already marginal cargo area (with rear seats intact).
With regard to spare wheel was our European (delivery) having run flat tire as standard (entry), which we changed to the option - the collapsible tire, 185/75 17, on the 6,0" x 17 rim. To be inflated by the electric air pump.
BTW: Fuel consumption will certainly be different from the "350s". As I assume the 250 CDI BlueTEC is the one which will be available, I can report from one trip in fall: 1200 miles, avg. 47,9 mph, 38,6 mpg. Consumption 220 CDI and 250 CDI is equal.

The torque of a diesel is incredible. I live in the Hill Country and a diesel will pull a pretty steep grade without downshifting. I think I read a while back where this engine has something like 175 HP, 300 ft/lbs, and run 0-60 in 8.? sec (about the same as the GL). This is well within my requirements. It remains to be seen with this class of car, but diesels pickups have always had a much higher re-sale than their gas counterparts, especially after 100K.
