Audio system questions
Audio system questions
Hi all,
I am interested in the GLK. I'm narrowing my next SUV choice between the GLK and a Range Rover Sport. Due to LR's poor reliability, I'm leaning towards the GLK. I have a couple of basic questions about the GLK audio system.
1. Does it have a basic auxiliary input? If so, where is the aux input located? I don't mean a USB slot, or a plugin for the iPhone. Just a simple 1/8" input jack.
2. Does the GLK allow streaming of audio (ie, listening to music on my phone) via BlueTooth?
3. Failing all that, is the audio system sophisticated enough to where you can just plug your phone in the glovebox, and if you get a call, or want to listen to an audiobook, that it is easily enough navigable?
Thank you for your help,
RN

1. yes, in glovebox
2. not standard, but if you search this question was asked, and somebody had a solution i believe
3. don't know, perhaps iphone users with ipod intergation can chip in. I'm assuming you are talking about iphone.

#3 - Yes, if you have an iPhone and upgrade to the Technology Package (Canada), or Multimedia Package (USA). You can pick up the call, and control the iPhone right within the center 7" COMAND screen. And yes, the iPhone/AUX/USB connector is located in the glovebox.

My cousin has the Range Rover LR. It's so cheesy inside it made the GLK a simple choice.
The Sport is probably nicer, but for $25K more than the GLK it damn well better be!
We won't go into the whole British car thing...

We test drove a GLK today. Black, with all the nice upgrades. Fantastic vehicle. I love it. Will probably buy one in the next few weeks.

There is quite a difference in size between the 2 vehicles. Are you sure you want something so large or for that matter so small by comparison. Don't get me wrong I love my GLK but a Range Rover Sport is in a different class and a different price range. I know a few people with RR's and they for the most part are very happy with them. If there is a problem that's what loaner cars are for. For it's size the GLK is a great choice. For me I don't carry passengers most times just my clubs. and it works out great.

Very true.
I also bought the GLK because I liked the size. For the Range Rover (not RR; that's a Rolls!
) the equivalent is the LR and we already dealt with that.
Loaner cars don't make up for the hassle of having to take a car in for service; I'd rather avoid that as much as possible.

Well then I guess all you have to do is pick out your options and a color and you will be a new GLK owner. Hope it works out.
I was looking at the prices of used Range Rovers, which should tell you about their reliability.
07 range rover (not sport, talking about big brother, 90k car when it was new) is selling for 35k. 2004 which is first year of this style, is selling for 17k.
For comparison 07 s-class is selling in high 40's-50's.

Streaming audio from a BT phone on the COMAND system is not supported. It did not work with my BB. Audio must be fed thru hardwire i.e. Aux input.
Odd that the lower end nav would support it but command doesn't.
Thanks for the info.
Erik
iPod integration
I don't have GLK but the 2011 E350 has COMAND and I have the iPod integration in the glovebox. I use and iPhone and can stream bluetooth plus have an older iPhone 3G in the gloveox that is loaded with audiobooks.
I do not like the audiobook interface at all. The way iTunes creates audiobooks they are all affiliated under a single author, or title, or genre, however there is no easy way to advance between discs. I am listening to one book now that contains 35 CDs and its a hassle advancing between CDs. I have to go though genre, author then pick the next CD and start the first track. I may not be doing something correctly either when putting together the compilation in iTunes, but at this point i'm not a fan of navigating through audiobooks via the main console.
Anyone else have experience with this?
