I have been using Zanio Z2 on my E550 which is Black. Look great but when you touch it there are finger prints. I just got some Liquid Glass a friend said was great. I also order the preclearer from Liquid Glass and thinking for staring over.

Has anyone used this?

I asked my salesman what the dealership used to prep my car, he said carnuba based wax.

What is nano finish and nanowax.

So far I am not going to use brushless or drive thru washes. I will do hand wash.

I don't kno what kind of washes the Atlanta dealerships use, but it is quick, so I assume some type of drive thru.

There are hundreds of different car care products and the same number of different opinions on what works best. While I am not a professional Detailer, I am as particular (read: obsessive compulsive......) about which products work best, based on my experience and choose to use on my cars, to accomplish different finish goals. After trying quite a few products over the years the following is what I have settled on to date. I hope this helps some of you who are curious what to use and will be interested to hear what others are using as well.

For my Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG and my wife's BMW 335i xDrive Coupe:
Since 2007, I have been using the following Ultima products from Autopia Car Care for protecting the metallic paint finish of my Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars. The process and sequence I follow starts with washing our cars with the Chemical Guys Glossworkz, and then follow by preparing the paint, followed by applying the protective polymer. I have listed below each product in order of sequence, links to each product on their respective web site(s). Also, the noted ongoing/occasional cleaning system is great for removing tree sap, bug splats, etc. after having applied the polymer, as well as the listed Detail Spray that is formulated to be compatible with the protective polymer. The finish of this polymer is a very shiny high gloss that is sufficient for my tastes for daily driver cars, thus eliminating having to also apply a wax/polish and the time required to do that on a regular basis. If one wants to have a shine with more depth, it is suggested to use a high quality car polish on top or over the polymer, realizing it will only las 2-3 weeks with normal exposure to the environment. (I also suggest that you might want to read some of the customer reviews for each product):

For my 2014 BMW M6 Coupe:
My new BMW M6 with the Alpine White paint finish, is NOT a metallic paint. Therefore, I want to use a product that will work better for that type of finish, producing a glossy and protective coating over the painted surfaces, I have done some more research online and have decided to purchase some new products from the excellent online auto car care retailer AUTOGEEK.NET, specifically Wolfgang Concours-Series Car Care, listed below. I will apply them this weekend and see how they perform over the next 3-6 months:

I will continue using the Chemical Guys Glossworkz Auto Wash, described previously, since I am satisfied with its results, then will use a clay/lubricant to remove any surface contaminants, then apply a polish enhancer to further prepare the surface, followed by a new protective paint polymer sealant:

AVG-AMG - You said you use a bucket with a grit guard. I would suggest the tow bucket system - a second bucket with grit guard and clear water. After washing a section of car rinse the dirt off your mitt in the bucket of water before dipping it into the bucket with your soapy water. Why rinse teh dirt off your mitt into the water you will be applying back onto your car. You will see a big difference in how clean your wash water stays and how dirty the rinse bucket gets.

Also to avoid swirls wash and wax in only one straight line - generally the direction air travels over your car. You will still get tiny scratches but the light won't catch them so they will not show up as much.

Thanks for your suggestions. I should use the 2-bucket method and you are correct, but I guess there must be some fine line between being O.C. and then sort of lazy... I think I am right up at that border.. I know I should do the 2-bucket method, but have not done so. If I can force myself past that silly mental hurdle I will be on your enlightened side of car care....

When I apply any of these products by hand, I generally initially use a circular rubbing motion and then while the product is still "wet" will rub in a straight line in the line of front-to-back of the car. I agree with your experience and observation.

On a new GLK - use Einszett Glanz Wax blue top (sealant) from Amazon - which was specifically formulated for the MB and Porsche paint. Nano-clearcoat has a micro surface to it like over lapping platelets (think alligator) and the sealant smooth that out - and NO you can't polish out the micro surface of the nano clearcoat.

Clean GLK - watery consistency - apply one-2/3 sq ft-section-at-a-time-let-dry-to-haze-and-cure-30/hr-wipe-smooth-including-wheels let it "set" for a week and added depth/lustre with spray carnuba... ez, not up to the $100's of products here for under $30 you will be impressed.. you need a sealant with nano, then you can super increase depth/lustre after cure with liquid carnuba for the super enthusiast.. I have not seen a sealant outperform Glanz especially for the p[rice.. older recent model GLK's use Ganz Wax/Sealant green top, followed by Blue Top.. just my 2 cents..
