Lock/Unlock Sound
I'm curious to know if there is any way to change the annoying horn sound to a more subtle "beep-beep" sound when locking and unlocking my GLK? Thanks.

Hmm.. Odd. What year is yours? I noticed on Youtube video's, some GLK's "beeped" while others "honked". My Lexus "beeps" and my Suburban "honks". I looked through the manual and instrument settings and couldn't seem to solve the problem. It's rather annoying to me though.

......have '11 model and it was loud (horn). I turned it off through settings and now I just have the turn signal lights to confirm.
How did I do it?
Using the steering wheel buttons,
go to SETTINGS (page 171 of manual)
go to VEHICLE
- activating/deactivating the acoustic locking confirmation
Select your choice (page 173 of manual)
.

I hate the honk and have it turned of on both my E550 and the wife's GLK.

that's a very weird change and definately not needed. guess they were trying to save a few bux a car. I think every "luxury car" has the chirp. the last car I had which used the horn was my first car, a 97 CRV, lol

To be honest, no one really knows the answer to your question. I would recommend that the next time you visit your dealer, I would ask a service tech. (NOT THE SALES GUY, and NOT the SERVICE REP at the desk, you wish to speak to an actual Service Tech.) Try to get the attention of one if you happen to see one walking to parts or the bathroom and then ask if he/she knows if there is a software flash or firmware setting that will get you the chirp instead.
Good luck

First time posting over here since getting my car .
I've got an '11 and mine does the honk as well. The dealership gave me a loaner C-Class (2010) while waiting for my truck to come in and it had the nice beep-beep. I was excited to activate the noise confirmation on lock & unlock, but after hearing the beep, I've gone back to silent. It does seem like this was a change made for 2011.

Definitely not a cool change from the 2010 models. Why in the world would MB want to change the sound from a 'luxurious' digital chirp to a 1990s horn sound?? How much money could they have really saved from this change?
Anyway, Hi! New Owner of a 2011 GLK in white. Picked it up yesterday, and one of my first questions to the salesperson when I picked it up was "where's the beep-beep notification?" She said "don't think the 2011s have any notification sounds, they're all silent"
No wonder its turned off by default!

Does anyone know if something can be done to change a 2011 HONK into a BEEP BEEP? Is it 'honking' the actual car horn? Or is it a horn that can be changed to something different, or even muted. (Visions of me stuffing a sock in my MB horn. )

It's a setting in the the cars cpu configuration. You need to find a dealership that would be willing to reactivate it for you. Apparently there were complaints that the chirp wasn't loud enough, so they switched the chirp to the horn, but I believe it's still there waiting for someone with the smarts to turn it back on.

Mine doesn't make ANY sound. I am guessing the dealer turned it off. My GLK was at the showroom. Maybe that is why they did it.
