I hear you. Many people do not care at all. I would never do that to somebody else; at least not without taking responsibility for my actions. Hope it is the last time.

Most places charge $110 for the 1st ding and $25 for additional dings. I watched them fix my car and I was amazed at their work.

Last week I took my '99 Dodge pickup shopping instead of the Benz. Parked in front of a store with a small, tight parking lot. It just started pouring so I sat there a few minutes. An older lady got into her big Ford and backed straight into my back bumper. Dodge 1, Ford 0. If I'd have had my three week old Benz I'd probably be in jail now for assault. Sometimes fate works in the right way.

Sorry to hear about the door ding. Yes, people are disrespectful.
Yesterday my wife had our minivan and parked it in a Costco lot. It was just washed. Unfortunately, someone thought it'd be funny to put gum all over the side of it. So there's now dried bubble gum all over the side of the van.
I'm just glad that it was only gum and not a keying. Or that it didn't happen to the GLK.

for the laugh of it ... if you ever noticed that the people who park next to you are either in a very small car or a big truck? and the person who is driving is usually overweight where they need the 'extra' room to open the door wider than their vehicle would allow them to get out. Funny thing is they can't recognize the MB vehicles parked already.
Call the Dent Doctors or similar, and they are amazing. Better than repainting and less hassle with insurance deductible...

i got into a fight with this scenario on my last car. There was a X5 that parked so close on my murano and i can see everything happening from a storefront window. the young guy opened his door with "authority" and smacked on my passenger front door. The guy looked at it just laughed. from afare i saw that there was a fine line on my door and went out to confront the guy. i asked for his registration papers and i received a finger. well guess what. his x5 received a back kick on his passenger door and i was wearing my steel toed/steel sole working boots then i gave him two fingers. he just looked shocked and never said anything. thats how you do it in vancouver. lol!

I don't think I would have done what you did, but my guess is that the X5 guy will be more careful next time!

Do you guys know if the useless OEM sidestep bar will help a lot in preventing door dings to our glks?

really...I do hope that they won't drill any holes on the paneling i'll just ask them to take out the panel. if it will be drilling on the body then they sure need to patch that hole or something so that it won't rust then say bye-bye to your corrosion warranty if that becomes the source of the rust.

I went to the stealership this morning to see if the sidestep will help and there was a GLK with the sidestep sitting inside the showroom and a C-class right besides it. From what I saw after opening the doors of the C-class the front doors won't hit the glk body but the back door will. So it might help a little but the fact your legs will be dirty everytime you step out is something that you have to consider as well specially if you always wear black slacks like I do.
