I'm sure this has been discussed before but for what conceivable reason would I want to turn on just my left or just my right side parking lights? Beyond me.

 

From what I have seen and read for some reason it is a carry over from the European market. There would be no reason to use them in the US especially if you were on a dark road and pulled off to the shoulder someone might mistake your car for being on the wrong side of the road or vice versa and swerve right into you.

I have been told by other drivers when I use the rear fog lamp that one of my tail lights are out.

I don't have much use for either light option.

 

i have to remind myself about this feature as i havent touch the light switch on the car more features to test.

 

In Germany, it is still a valid "road traffic regulation" (STVO § 17, para 4, illuminating a car) to use these kind of lights if you park your car on the road within the city limits.

The law states that the side of the car which faces traffic has to be lit. There is even a road sign (#394), which is mounted on public street lighting poles that shows that this light is not on all night. Therefore you have to use your "parking light".
