I was a bit concerned about that but when I was out today the outside temp was 98F and the engine maintained 85-90C, same as always. On page 162 of the manual it states the coolant temp may rise to 120C. I think I'd be very worried if I saw it getting anywhere near that.

Good point. I'll have to check that. I don't find anything in the manual regarding transmission temp monitoring. Looking at pictures the European version mounts the front plate higher on the bumper but that I guess requires a $$$ MB bracket. Rats.

You should ask within this forum who has a spare one...or who is moving from a State where the front plate is required to a State where no front plate is required.
I don't think these brackets are so expensive. It feels like cheap plastic.
I took a second look at your picture. Your plate is already within a frame/plate holder. Can't you mount the chrome frame to the bumper.
That's what they do in Germany. Most of them just use a cheap plastic frame from the dealer.
The US plate holder wouldn't be wide enough anyway and the plate would stick out too far. I couldn't tell by your picture if your car has these
parking sensors in the front. If yes, the wide plate mounted away from the bumper would interfere with it.

It does appear to be the T cooler back there so I took the plate off. The bracket from MB Parts Center is $81 + tax+ shipping. I don't know if that's an official MB site or not. I can't tell from their exploded view how the bracket mounts without drilling holes which isn't going to happen. It does look like a flat piece of something. The plate I got does have a plastic chromed bracket with many holes. The directions were all in German. I do not have the sensors on the bumper. I'll give it a better look when it's not so @#%&# hot out. Oh well, I'll have a nice sign to hang in my shop.
