lift gate question

I just noticed that my glk power liftgate will open and not close using the driver's door liftgate button. It only happens when the car is not turned on. Is this normal?

Mine opens andcloses with the key turned on
Lift up on the switch to open

This is how my 2010 works also. Opens anytime from drivers door, only closes from drivers door with ignition active.

Kind of annoying and probably some liability concern?

I was told it is like that and they can't do anythng about it (I do believe they can just a programming thing) but during the testing the car's gate started acting up like not opening fully or smoothly so i left it to the dealer. Nice as they let me drive a ML loaner which I'm liking and reminds me of my previous murano because of the size.

I do hope the liftgate will not be a headache and gets fixed and won't do the same thing after the warranty.

works same here

It never bother me as I never use inside button. I ether use the key or button on the liftgate itself.

Not openning fully might have to do with you activating height limit (i.e. you can set the tailgate to open to certain level only if you have low ceiling in the garage).

There were issues with tailgates on 2010 models, where tailgate would not open. It would open and inch and then close right back. There was adjustment for that and my lift gate has been working like a charm past two years.

they ended up replacing the motor and control module for the liftgate. they also reprogrammed it to the point that when it reaches its last 3 to 4 inches it will slowly continue before it will stop not like before it will just stop abruptly-the snaping noise also dissapeared after this adjustment. Also when it closes it does the same thing last 3 to 4 inches it will slowly close. I was told that way the motor's gears won't get stressed when it it reach its end.

Note to Self:

Self, make sure the liftgate is adjusted to this specification before writing the final check.

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
