Techniques for rotating tires at home (without lift)

Our GLK is 1 1/2 years old with 8000 miles (grocery getter, wife doesn't work). The courtesy dealer rotation was done at 5,000 miles, but as I get closer to the next rotation I plan on doing it at home.

For those of you rotating your tires at home, I'm trying to determine the best/safest technique used to handle this task (as there are only 4 jack points, and the tires are to be rotated front to back same side).

Right now I'm thinking of using a "spare" 5th wheel, and jacking only one wheel at a time. Only problem is my "spare" is a rim only right now.

Let me know your thoughts and what's been working for you.

Here is a link to my post on making an adapter for a floor jack which works well on a my GLK (as well as my CLS and previously-owned SLK55.) If you jack the GLK at the front, both the front and rear wheels will lift off the ground and you easily can swap tires front to rear.

Ok, so you just jack the front right which lifts the right rear and swap the two wheels, then do the same with the left side. I've got the Reverse Logic jack pad tool which fits nicely inside the saddle of my jack. Yours looks like a nice fabrication for a jack with a smaller saddle. Thanks for the info.

Block the other two tires SECURELY! A friend of mine lost a neighbor recently when his car fell off of a jack or jack stands. I don't know all of the particulars except that the guy is no longer with us. Be careful! Be safe!

Yes, and apply the parking brake and have the transmission in PARK. You can place a jack stand under the rear jacking point and lower the vehicle enough to have some of the weight on that stand and some on the floor jack.
