I checked out the Navteq web site.

There is an update dvd available. Just wondering if anyone has updated their navigation system via the Navteq dvd?

(My local dealer says that an update is not yet available from MB)

 

Another item to check during delivery. I am convinced that Navteq supplies old DVDs so that the auto companies can charge a bundle for upgrades.

I got letter in the email for update...250 bux. I think i'll be ok for now w/out it.
MB need to do what audi has done and have google maps based navi.

 

Gosh. Do you mean that the Navteq web page is out of date? Imagine that. With 2 phones running Google maps and a TomTom for backup, I reckon we are good.

In my other cars, I use my Android phone with Google Maps Nav & it's brilliant.
I tell my wife all the time how GMN is constantly updated & it's free & the layers are out of this world.
In contrast - Merc are put together great & their hardware engineering is 2nd to none.

But the electronics have a ways to go.

 

Apparently this update is for 2010 & 2011 models. Something omitted in the first post.
The question now is, Do recently delivered 2012 GLKs have the current DVD? How do you check for the current version?

I have completely abandoned the MB Navi system in lieu of similar set up, (iPhone/iPad)... The OEM Navi is a technologically slow and inept system that doesn't even indicate the names of surrounding roads. This TomTom app updates itself automatically and has built-in Construction/Traffic/Radar/Speed Camera/Red-Light Camera etc. alerts as well... for 1/4 the price.

 

I just spoke to Heather at Navteq. The 2012 v.9 DVD was released in mid-September. 2012 GLKs made before then will probably have v.7 DVD at delivery. Vehicles built after mid-September should have v.9, the current 2012 version of the DVD.

See, it was really the NAV that take some into oncoming traffic not the soft brakes!

The Minister of the Interior, Transportation & Finance would never never ever ever allow a contraption like that in any vehicle she uses. She also would never allow a steering wheel on her side of the vehicle. Grinning.
