Extended Limited Warranty

MB Toronto is trying to sell me on a few packages while I'm waiting for the arrival of my GLK (expected middle of next week). Since this is my first MB and I heard that the repair cost is usually high, I need some input on these packages:

(1) Extended Warranty :
(a) $2490 for 6 years of warranty instead of 4 years.
(b) $2810 for 6 years of warranty + 1 extra year on the powertrain only.

(2) Tire & Rim Protection : $695 for 5 years. (I have the 20" Rims)

(3) Paint protection, Interior protection, Paint protection film : $499 each
OR $1299 for all three.

Thanks ......

I've never been a fan of extended warranties but I will tell you that the wheel and tire package is a steal. A new 20" rim from MB is about $750 + labor. I know because I had to replace one. What you need to do is read the fine print and see what constitutes a replacement and what the caveats are.

As far as the maintenance is concerned, mine is almost 3 years old with no problems so far (except for some items covered under warranty). So again you need to read the fine print. IMO the extended warranties on the vehicle are usually not worth it.

Regarding the paint etc there are aftermarket products like Zaino that will do a far superior job in protecting the paint with very little effort on your part.

I'm surprised that they didn't offer you glass protection. For a car with such a vertical windshield you would think they would offer it. Maybe that's coming.

Otherwise keep your money.

I took tire and rim protection. Replacing two three tires or one rim and you break even. In 2.5 years I replaced one tire. Some ppl hit a large pothole and had two rims/tries replaced in first year. So I guess depends how ****ty roads are by you. Extended warranty is a joke in my mind for that kind of money.

Bought tire & rim protection for the same reasons listed above.
Declined extended warranty because I only plan to keep the car for 5 yrs & I work enough cars to know that bad luck is the only thing that is out of my control.

Generally dealer paint protection sucks. The best paint protection (clear bra) film to get is one that's custom applied to the car so there's no seams. Pre cut films which is what a lot of dealers use is cheap crap that doesn't even protect all seams of the car.

True custom clear bra paint protection is great. Just make sure they are careful about cutting it on the car. If not you could end up with razor marks. I have had the clear bra on my car for about 2 years now. It's nice not having to worry about a bunch of rock chips on the front edge of the hood.

You can always sell your car/truck back to dealer, then buy back as Certified Used and get the 5 year 100000 mile drive train warranty added to the standard new car warranty.

You are not paying for paint protection, you are buying an insurance policy.

Always?

I'm going with just wheels and tires warranty. Picking up the GLK tomorrow morning.

Oh I see. From my experience it's been them trying to sell the film but now that I reread the first post closer I see he mentioned both paint protection and paint protection film. So to make my original post clearer, I'm referring to the paint protection film.
