Cool. I had not heard of v. 8. But it makes sense. I thought since v. 9 listed dates as 2011/2012 that you might have it. I am quite sure that it is sufficiently current to be very useful for years to come. I am very anti-annual software updating.

Doesn't have Homelink buttons to control garage doors, yet I suppose. Cool though esp with BU camera.

2012 GLK 350--AMG Package 20" Chromed Wheels, Loaded
Update regarding Navigation upgrades: as I mentioned earlier and in another thread on the same subject, my brand new ("ordered" and only a week old) loaded 2012 GLK350 has to my dismay, the old version 9.0 navigation system in it, which by the way is the same old system as in the 2009 models.
Now for the awakening!
My wife picked up her brand new loaded 2012 C250 Sport Sedan this weekend, and guess what? It has the new navigation system and it's light years ahead of mine! I feel cheated to say the least! Not only that, her's receives and reads out loud, text messages!!!! And, she also has the "cup of coffee" wake up notice on her system. Couple that with awesome 3-D navigation and the very cool instrumental graphics and it is worth the cost to upgrade, whatever that is. I'm really bummed that it's not in my "new car"!! What's even more amazing is that the service writers and sales people at the dealership didn't even know the text messaging was available. I registered with Navtect to be notified when an update came in. Just FYI for anyone that is interested. Thanks!

Hi Emdem, I'm not sure of the version of her software but I'll check it out and get back to you on it. My understanding is that the software upgrade from 9.0 will be out next year. I do know that per my dealership service mgr, your car should already have it installed. I think the GLK's were the cars that it was not included on. The models that it was included on were: C/CL/S/E/M/SLK, with more to follow. So if you have a late in the year 2011 or 2012 E350 (appears you do-sweet car-miss mine) you should have it.

Wow, beautiful car! I had 5 E-Classes in a row and loved everyone of them. We are lucky as we lease them through our business and get to trade up every 3 years so we have been able to pick and choose, with in reason of course, what we want to drive. My wife started with a 99-SLK, then moved to a CLK350 and then to 2-C-300/350 Sport Sedans and now 2012 C250 Sport Sedan. The new one she just got is truely world-class inside and out. It has the new dashboard similar to your car and the S-Class with all the graphics and bells and whistles. Quite a car, really! Like you, I love the GLK as it's the first SUV I've ever owned. I loaded it out as I figured what the heck, I may end up keeping it after the lease if I still love it. Just kind of miss the luxury of the E350's but hope that will become distant memories so I can concentrate on loving this one. Kind of like switching putters if you are a golfer-LOL! Good luck with yours - Hope you love it! Enjoy!

emdem,
Enjoy! I got one of those lo-res salesman photos and it was a WHOLE WEEK of total torture before we could take delivery. While it seemed like the week would never end, less than 30 seconds after laying eyes on our new Precious, the week, months, years, decades of waiting were soon forgotten.

Well, I spoke to a gal at Navtec today and she explained that indeed, they are two completely different systems and the only way to get the 3D or other features in my 2012 GLK is by removing the complete Navigation drive and replace it with the same Nav drive that is in my wife's new C-250--That ain't going to happen--So there you have it. No more wishing for the 3D and text messaging--LOL. Time to enjoy the car--which I do.

"Coulda. Shoulda. Woulda." "Love the one your're with." "You can't always get what you want..."

In the meantime, I have a nifty app for the Blackberry that "reads" text messages and emails to me. It is mostly turned off since I get maybe one text message a week and zero emails on my phone. Theoretically, I can reply to a text message verbally and the app will type and send a text message. I will turn it on and see if the voice comes through the car's system.
In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy blasting across half the country next week on as many backroads as I can.

I use a Blackberry (9810 Torch) and currently use an app called Vlingo Plus (pro) which seems to be the best of the bunch so far (free from BB App Store until end of month). I've also tried Drive Safely, Drive Carefully, and a couple of others but this seems to be the best.

It DOES NOT work through our bluetooth set ups in MB's as it is in essence another bluetooth device and doesn't work through radios. I just turned off the bluetooth check box in options on the Vinglo app and it reads the messages out loud thru my phone spkr when I have it on. Mostly use it for text msgs and not emails. To send a reply requires some hand-holding which is hard to do when driving so I never return msgs until I'm at a light or stopped but you can verbally read the reply and it will send it.

I wish BB would pay to get "Siri" the iPhone app. It is by far the best out there. Nearly human-lol! My friend who has an iPhone-4/Siri asked the voice if she loved him and the reply was really funny--she (the voice) said "I can't love you, I'm a cell phone"!. Have a great day.

We have Torches as well. Love them! I am tempted to call AT&T and ask how much they want for 4G Torch service. Not really. I'll use that $$$ for my first Service A.

we have the 4G service here in So CA with ATT and it is a lot faster. We too love the Torches and the 9810's are light years ahead of the 9800's--which are also great phones. The 9810 has a lot more options and speed--plus the brower is awesome--faster than an iPhone. Looks like we have a lot in common! What part of Texas are you in. We'll be there next week with my daughter and family who life in Forney (east of Dallas about an hour). I also have a small office in Denton, though I'm not there much anymore.

We've had our '12 GLK for just over a week here in the US after doing European Delivery. It has the 2011/2012 v9 Nav in it. I was disappointed to find that the new exit next to my house off of I-77 that was built 1.5 years ago isn't on the map. So everytime we use nav to go somewhere or come back home, it tries to take us to the next exit miles up the road. It's not a huge deal because we obviously know where to go, but it's annoying none the less--especially since the exit is over a year old. Guess we'll have to wait for the next update.

I am really impressed with voice command so far. I haven't even trained it and it understands me perfectly!

Have you noticed any new functionality vs. prior version?

Not really, just a lot more streets around where I drive. I used to be "Off Road" a lot but now they have streets displayed.

I have a theory. 3-5 years for highways to make it to the digital maps. We were in vacant space today on a 4 lane highway we last drove in Sept. 2010.

Further proof. New US 82 bridge at Greenville, MS. Construction began in 2006. The bridge was opened in 2009. 2 nights ago when we crossed it, we were on a blank space on the screen. The old roadway was shown upstream from the new bridge. Maybe the 2013/2014 update will catch up?
