GLK Questions

1) Does anyone have the outside mirror puddle lights on their GLK? MB calls it "Night Security Illumination" and on their website, it shows a picture of this light on. I am again in a loaner GLK, 2011 P1 and there is not even a lens under the mirrors. This a package thing?

2) Are the headlamp washers heated? Or any washers for that mater? Doesn't say on the web or in the manual, but I have seen other MB models that didn't say in previous years, and they were heated. Did notice a "special order heated washer bottle" when I placed the order, but no one at the dealer knew how to actually input that or the price. Anyone know of this?

3) Is there a rear reading light for passengers? Or some way for rear passengers to turn on a light? Or is this in a package? Page 107 of the manual shows it, so maybe is this a 2012 thing?

Thanks for the help, the dealers in my area only stock a few base models, and don't have good answers.

2012 GLK.
No puddle lights. Glaring omission.
Rear seat left & right reading lights with leather seating. Don't know if those are related.
Headlight washers: See my other post. There was mention of 2010/2011 heating.

Arghhh. Rear reading lights do go with the leather package, and for this order I chose MB Tex. Ordered pretty much everything else though. Wonder if the reading lights are interchangeable?

Sucks about the puddle lights. Nice feature on my ML.

Going to do more research on the washer heating system. It's cold here.

A small LED under the rear view mirror in some cases, or along the bottom of the body sill (or step runners) in other cases that light the ground (in darkness) so you don't step out of the car and into a puddle.... very unnecessary, more for the feminine buyer.

Sounds more like things I used to see in the hood with purple lights under the pimp cars.

In a way, yes they do but now they look much better, (see below) especially from Brabus. Mercedes is now equipping many of their higher end models with this option from the factory.

The Very Nice Looking (& powerful) Brabus GLK: (PS These options, especially the flared fenders) are no longer available. )

We were up in Boone/Blowing Rock/Banner Elk NC last week when it snowed. Nothing on the car froze with summer washer fluid from the factory. That was before I knew about the fatal change in the headlight wiper function.

Security approach light (a.k.a. puddle light): A single, small light on the lower side of the outside rear view mirrors. Switched on, along with the car's interior and parking lights, by the car's remote control at a considerable distance. Lets bad guys know you are coming without unlocking the car. Tasteful and usefull and totally unrelated to anything resembling a "Pimp Mobile". Standard on Volvo. Unobtanium to a degree on M-B.

The picture I was sent sure looks like pimp lights in the rocker panels. Nothing in the mirror.

Here are the puddle lights on the new 2012 GL-Class... very similar to the Brabus GLK.

I know what I have. Functional and tasteful. Alas, Pure Unobtanium on the GLK. And way off topic.

Heated windshield cleaning system is available for GLKs, however country specific. Heated nozzles are standard here, whereas in Germany seen only as an option in the M-B GLK Konfigurator. There listed as, category, “Scheibenwaschanlage beheizt” (heated windshield cleaning system) and item "Scheibenwaschdüsen beheizt” (heated windshield nozzles). The M-B order code is 875, to enlighten the dealer.

The price for option 875 is € 202,30, approximately $261 with current exhange rate.

I don’t know for sure whether the headlamp washer nozzles are heated or not, or if the windshield washer reservoir still is heated by a “loop” from the engine coolant, as some cases of latter leaking into the reservoir are reported.

heated windshield nozzles are also standard here in canada. not sure if the headlights washers are heated as well....maybe it doesn't matter as the fluid comes from the same reservoir anyway and I think the reservoir is the one heated.

no need for puddle lamps if you have one of these....

You're welcome.

The link to the German GLK Konfigurator: http://www.mercedes-benz.de/content/...d6X3:15hadqbn1

Select Ausstattungen wählen, Sicherheit/Technik and scroll down to section Technik for “Scheibenwaschanlage beheizt”.

Hi all, more questions that can't be answered by the dealer.
I ordered mine (hers actually) with the single disc multi media package ($2600). The one on the MB website for $3000 is near impossible to get.

1) Does this media package play DVD's?

2) Anyone ever thought of buying a dedicated iPod and leaving it in the glove box?

3) If so, what iPods are compatible. MB's site calls for up to 4th generation, and does not mention the new Nano (6th generation). Will this work as plug and play and also charge the battery?

Thanks again
