The Japan electrical connector adapter cable is used to connect the various mobile phones to the communications control unit.

A Bluetooth-compatible mobile phone can only be operated in the vehicle if a mobile phone is not connected to the Japan electrical connector adapter cable. Additionally, the Bluetooth-capable mobile phone must be authorized at the COMAND controller unit and support Hands Free Profile (HFP) 1.0 or 1.5.
More information is available at:

With a mobile phone operated with Bluetooth, read access to the telephone book in the mobile phone is possible when the mobile phone supports the Bluetooth Profile Phonebook Access Profile (PBAP).

The system is described using a mobile phone connected to the Japan electrical connector adapter cable as an example. Deviations from this are indicated with the symbol.

Thanks. I am clueless re: Above information. I'll let my co-pilot read/send emails directly from her phone. Actually, when we are on a road trip I purposely avoid email and general web surfing like the plague. All of that is too much like work. I don't do work when I'm on a road trip. YMMV.
