Question on Aluminum Roof Rails for 2011 GLK
Has anyone here actually gone to the MB dealer to have his black roof rails replaced with the Aluminum Roof Rails for a GLK (2011)?
If so, what was total all-in cost?
Do you have any suggestions on how to minimize the cost (without me having to take the roof apart, which I am not skilled enough to do)? I'm in the Chicago area.
Lastly, this may a stupid question, is it a better value to get the appearance package (20 inch wheels + aluminum roof rails) vs. just having the roof rails replaced?
Thanks for any specific insights you might have on this.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.........
Just guessing here.
What exterior color is the GLK? I see white GLKs with black rails & I think they look better than the bright rails. The reverse is probably true for dark colored GLKs.
I have had a wagon with black rails since 2003. I have had a GLK with bright rails since November, 2011. I never see either from the driver's seat. To me, it's no big deal.
I promise you that an after the fact swap by the dealer will cost more than the Appearance Package. Or very close. With M-B, it always seems cheaper to get things at time of build. That is why we ordered a build to our specifications.

Hi Venchka,
Those are some good insights. I appreciate it. The color is slate gray.

I suppose the bright aluminum rails do matter. How to get them after delivery? No clue.
Yea. I'm showing off. So shoot me.

Yes they are. That was the OP's question about value. Before delivery: Appearance/AMG Pkg. vs. after delivery from the dealer. Like the Lighting package and trailer hitch, the price is always better at time of build.

In Canada, this was all standard, as was the AMG package, at least for all 2012's. Never understood why MB USA stripped down their GLKs and MB Canada had them loaded up with more standard features...
