Yep, somehow my wife manages to find the rocks that chip the windshield. Must be her luck. Replaced under insurance using safelite twice with just paying 50 dollar deductible. The price tag is 600 through safelite, dealer quoted 1200. Safelite guy came to my place and replaced it in 30-35min. The windshield is the same brand made in Germany (don't remember the name). Seems that dealers mark everything up by 100%.

Good info to know. I've been wondering how much one might cost as the windscreen angle is very verticle.

There are several small chips in my windshield - maybe 1mm each, or so. How much damage must the windshield have to trigger an insurance-paid replacement?

With any windshield chip you should have a professional fill the chip with resin as it may develop into a crack. In NY State, all glass repairs are covered through insurance with no deductible.
