GLK350 Engine Whine when Accelerating
I have a 2010 GLK350, with about 45000 miles on it. All of a sudden today my engine started producing a loud whining sound when I push on the gas. I can hear it pretty well even with the windows closed, and it's most prominent at lower gears.
I can reproduce the sound even with the car parked and applying some gas the rev the engine.
I'm not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but I drove my car to work in what was like monsoon storm the day before I heard this sound. The rain was nearly impossible to see in when on my way to work, and I even hit some large patches of flood water pooling up in the road that I hydroplaned through, thankfully I didn't crash. But intense splashes shot up, and also huge splashes coming from the other side of the highway that splashed as high as my windshield. I don't think I did anything wrong, and don't think water could do this, but I'm mentioning just in case someone might think it's correlated.
cheaper than a tranny/diff out of warranty!
However, the OP were able to produce the similar noise when the car is parked.
So I don't think it's related.
Dealership quoted me $1100 for alternator and $500 for the labor plus taxes. Since my car was already out of warranty,so I decided to take my car to an certified technician to get the alternator replaced. I ordered the alternator thru www.buyautoparts.com, which cost me $400 (with $75 refund for the core) and the technician charged me $130 for 2.5 hours job.
My GLK is quiet again, as a brand new car.
