Serious offroad gear?

What you guys really need is a cheap reliable car to drive while your GLK is in the shop being repaired after your trail runs. Actually, you will probably need the spare car even more when your "improvements" stress and break other components pushed past their design specifications. And some hiking boots to walk where you can get cell reception to call a tow truck.
Please post pics of your journey. It should be entertaining.

I think your point about staying within specs is critical. My 17's will be OEM 17's from a GLK 350 and put on tires designed for crossovers, which meet OEM specs. That said, I am still keeping an eye out for 1997-2004 grand cherokee or an xj cherokee.

Also, was the driving in the Subaru video I posted that challenging? Why do you believe these cars are so delicate? Where do you take your GLK? I am trying to learn with no intent to be argumentative. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Ml wheels are wider, so needed 20mm spacers, and longer wheel bolts. The isn’t a way to put any kind of A/T tire on the glk, because the smallest diameter wheel is 17”, but the total wheel diameter is under 29” due to spring perch location. I’ve looked at every 17” tire that is AT and all of them have a diameter 30 plus.
so at the end of the day this car is fine for smooth gravel roads, but not much else. I do love it though.
as for a trusted mechanic, I have a couple. One charges me $800 to $3100 every time there’s a problem and the other is me lol. I therefore do all my own work since MB’s plummet in value and are never worth their repair bill. This 2010 GLK is worth about $4k in excellent condition. Good luck!

If you read above you’ll see I went with ML wheels because the set was priced at $200. The size I need is 275/55R17. So the above tires you mentioned are too narrow.

I’ve been nosing around GLK’s And G’s looking for winter rigs to replace my highly modded Cherokee XJ. There just isn’t much available to get the look and functionality I want.
There are some things I could add like bigger tires but this has been a good winter off road rig. Now if I could just get a MBZ to get close to this look.
