2014 GLK350
Question Sport Mode - MPH shift points?

All, I have a new 2014 glk350 w/approx 1000 miles. When driving in sport mode I notice the transmission holding in 5th gear. I will be traveling at least 50-55mph. If I manually up-shift it using the paddles it will go to 7th gear but not stay there. after a short time it will again go back to 5th gear? Is this normal? And when should it up shift to 7th or will it? BTW eco mode shifts properly shifting to 7th as it should.

Just want to ensure everything is operating normally. So far extremely pleased with the car and can't wait for the first road trip!

Thanks,
Jim

A gaggle of MB's
Let me define it for you this way - "Economy" mode is when you will be up on the highway - "S" mode is for everything else...

Normal, you will also notice that in Sport mode the transmission actually starts in 1st gear...in Eco mode the transmission starts from 2nd gear from a stand still.

In sport mode the GLK350 is a blast...i find myself rocketing away from stop lights and driving like im in a sport sedan....then im reminded of the price of fuel and go back to Eco mode... ha!

Of course they can. He didn't say the modes can only used in that way. The way he described is more for maximum enjoyment of the vehicle, not that the car will explode if you accidentally drive around town in Eco mode.
