sunroof issues in cold regions?
Does anybody know if there are any issues with sunroof?
Especially for northern regions. I live in Canada.
Thanks a lot!
Ps: there was a small Premium Package (2100CAD or 1500CADless) without sunroof but now I don’t see it and wonder why…

2014 GLK250 BlueTEC, 2012 BMW 335is Conv.
It was discontinued. Probably due to demand that wasn't high enough to justify keeping it, particularly after they added a regular, internal sunroof as standard equipment thus eliminating any option at all to get a GLK with a solid, fixed roof.

Don't know about the GLK, but I have found that MB sunroofs in general can be troublesome.
Partly, it is our climate. salt and water get into the sunroof seals and rust eventually appears around the sunroof opening. This has happened to both our 85 300D and 98 E320.
The sunroof mechanism can fail. The early cars had a robust system, but modern cars have a plastic cassette that contains the system. I believe that MB may buy these from another company - Webasto. On our E320, the wires that push/pull the sunroof popped out of the plastic frame. Dealer solution was to replace the while cassette for several thousand $$. I was able to modify and repair mine, but it still cost several hyndred $$ for new cables and plastic bits.
On our old cars, I am having clear 3M tape installed all round the sunroofs and will disable the switches. This will hopefully keep water 7 salt out and stop the rusting.
For the GLK250, we have ordered a new base model without sunroof rather than buy the demo with sunroof and all bells and whistles we were offered for about same price.
If you are only going to keep the GLK for say 5 years or less, then there should be no problem.

MBWorld Fanatic!
No problem on mine. Vancouver weather. I do clean the track and channel often though and apply a rubber conditioner on the rubber parts to make it maliable as the wife parks it outside during office hours.
