2010 GLK350 Battery Dead
#27
I purchase batteries from FCP euro{the supplier]
Have purchased two Odyssey's for the two MB I have from them in the past 4 months.
Also have two Odysseys in my service truck, not purchased from them{that is way before I knew of FCP"s "Lifetime replacement guarantee"
Just do a search "FCP Lifetime replacement guarantee" you should find all the details.
I purchase the majority of my MB item from then just because of the Lifetime replacement guarantee.
You could ask many members on this board, they do the same
I have no financial interest in Odyssey or the supplier. Am only a paying customer who will purchase again.
It is your money.
Facts NOT BULL SHYTE!

FCP euro is great for some things, but if you ran out to Autozone thinking you would get an Odyssey battery with lifetime warranty you would be mistaken . And what are you going to do when it goes bad? Mail it back to FCP for 40$ ? And wait 2 weeks for a replacement? FCP would probably charge you shipping and handling. I could imagine you spending 100$ in costs for the “free” replacement.

I am 60 miles from FCP office and I still would ship.
If you have ever purchased and returned for exchange from FCP you ship to them, they ship to you{no they do not charge additional shipping}
People send back used filter and get them exchanged.
The last battery{a Odyssey Battery - (Group 49)] I purchased from them Feb 22, 2020, cost $277.21 with tax no shipping cost arrived in less than 48 hours
It will be the last battery I will purchase for the 2008 R320

merc battery
This is actually a problem with the messed up German design. These vehicles regulate the battery and system to only 12.6V which is too low to sustain the battery's life for several years like in other cars. Most car batteries should last for at least 5 to 8 years if properly maintained. For whatever reason the Germans think 12.6V is where it should be, but that's incorrect. When the engine is running it should keep the battery and the system at 13.8V and that’s where the problem is because it doesn't. Again, it’s the messed-up German interpretation of what the operating voltage should be. When you first start-up the GLK350’s engine the alternator puts out just over 14V, but for only around 30 seconds or more, then the 12.6V regulator kicks in and keeps it there. The battery itself without the engine running should be around 12.6V and with the engine running it should be 13.8V to 14V and that’s where the problem is because it simply doesn’t do it.
We have a 2010 GLK350 and the batteries only last around 3.5 years max. We are already on the 3rd battery because of this design mistake. I just had to replaced it again over the weekend.

$486 battery
I have heard that they do or at least, did do that in USA. but not here in Canada.
I usually just go and buy a battery with a good warranty at battery shop About $140 last time for E320.
I was really asking if that is really what a GLK battery costs ($400+) and if so, is it something special!

That sounds like a terrible waste of resources. Why not invest in a trickle/maintenance charger? Maybe you just like sticking it to MB and you're not too worried about the environment. No I'm not a tree hugger but waste is waste and you just sound so smug about it.

If it goes dead every 6 months, then there's no point in leaving the battery connected. If you take the ground strap off, it may not go bad as fast.

2022 E350; 2014 GLK
I just replaced my OEM battery in my 2014 GLK.
74K miles.
No problems, but at 7+ years old, service tech recommended replacement at my last "A" service.
Dealer wanted $500...
Picked up a Duralast Platinum from Autozone and replaced it myself (for $268).
Had Autozone test the old battery and their meter indicated bad battery!
It was on its last legs. Good thing it is garaged all the time (especially here in OH for winter).

Nobody and no mechanic talks about The REAL FIX , it’s a 110$ regulator and 1-2 hours labor !
Any mechanic will say
( the Alternator at 1,200 parts only)
and maybe 2000.00 !! Dealer + Donuts ! Or a REGULATOR !! For about 110!
yea pay 2000 to mb , or try the 100$ regulator . Mine was worn past specs at 70,000 miles !!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up MB ! Bad stuff !

Our 2014 GLK350 (base) has 86,500+ miles, still has orig battery. I did, however, recently replace the Auxiliary Battery, with an O'Reilly Super Start Platinum - exact fit and I swapped it in the parking lot (5 mins) to avoid the core charge and having to drive back.
I replaced the Aux Battery because the message "Auxiliary Battery Malfunction" was displayed on the dash every time I turned the key on.
Additionally, once a month (at least), I put the battery tender on the Jeep and GLK.

There's no basis for replacing a car battery after an arbitrary number of years, such as >6.
So many factors involved. My GLK original main battery is 10 years old now. Never had a no start situation or even slow/slower cranking in winter.

Mine is on battery number 3. The latest one was installed almost exactly at the 8 year mark. The old one failed to start at 15 degrees F. The new one is an Odyssey with lifetime warranty (from FCP). My understanding of the warranty is you order and pay for a replacement, then send the old one back for credit.

Items, like a battery, I prefer to buy locally. If there's an issue, drive to store, test it ... bad? Replaced on the spot in 10 minutes, no shipping back-n-forth.👍

I never use Eco Mode (I always turn it off when I start up the GLK) which apparently is the main reason the Aux Battery is used for.
Anyway, that message was shown for over a month, so I finally replaced the Aux Battery only to dismiss that message constantly displayed. 👍

Just to be clear ... and I didn't mention this in my previous post ... I replaced the Aux Battery because the message "Auxiliary Battery Malfunction" was displayed on the dash every time I turned the key on.

Same here. I think I had the message for over a year. Didn't have any problems, that I noticed, because of the deteriorated Aux. battery. Finally replaced it with a cheaper non-OEM battery just to get rid of the annoying message and to use it to power a 12 volt electric "cool box" in the trunk. Never actually got around to utilizing for that.
