Transmission jerking problem.

My 2012 E350 BlueTec has same problems. At about 4th and 5th gear car jerks when it is cold only, once it is warmed up I don't see it. This must be something associated with software in the transmission! Obviously, there are more and more people experiencing same symptoms. Let us share this information so we can benefit from each other.

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
Have a 2014, 5000 miles. Been into the dealer once for jerky shifting, seems only D2 to D3. Once it wouldn't shift into D or R when started. 3 weeks ago went in, dealer apologized it was apparently delivered low on fluid. They put about a quart in they said, and it should be good to go.
Now back to doing it, 3 times this past week. Going back in tomorrow. Found this thread, and wondering if fluid really was the issue. Seems this may be something else?
Anyone ever get any resolution for this issue?

What did you have to do to get your money back? Mine is 2012 E350 BlueTec doing same thing when cold only. Had Transmission replaced but it is still doing same so I have it back at dealer again.

Same Problem on my c class AMG sport 2012
Hello I thought I would mention that my c class is doing exactly the same thing. It was more violent when they gave the car back to me the second time. They said it was a software issue. Which it wasn't. They replaced the gear box and torque converter and now I'm getting a violent jerk when I accelerate from 4th to 5th gear and when it downshifts at low speeds. I can't cope with the constant trips to the garage no more and the garage said they won't buy my car back. This is in the UK at a garage called Mercedes Colindale. Customer service are saying they will reimburse a finance payment but I don't want that. The car has done 16000 miles. It shouldn't be doing this. This is a ongoing problem with the 7 speed auto gear box and nothing seems to be getting done. Terrible experience with Mercedes so far. Especially Mercedes Colindale who keep giving me a broken car back after they apparently test drove it.

I bought a 2014 GLK last August and within a few days I noticed the jerking too. Upshifting and downshifting. In January I took it back to Ogilvie Motors in Ottawa Canada where I bought it. The technician drove it around and confirmed the issue. They did a reset of some sort and called me to say that the vehicle was now fine. I picked it up and it seemed a little better at first but after a few days, very bad again.
Then I read this post on this website and e-mailed it to the dealership's service dept. to show them that the problem was widespread.
Last week, the car went in again. This time the technician drove it around (with my wife as a passenger) and he was able to replicate the jerking. The service manager called a few days later to tell us that they had consulted Mercedes Canada and that the issue was known at that level and that Mercedes had given them a code that would fix the problem. They did that and called us to say the vehicle was now fine. We picked it up and again, no better.
We went to the dealership yesterday to tell them that the issue had not been resolved. The service manager said we would need to bring it in again as MB Canada was collecting information to come up with a solution. He talked about a possible "recall", whatever that means.
All this to say, if you have the problem, let your dealership know, the more people that complain, the better chances that they will finally address the problem. Needless to say we are less than impressed with the product and the time and effort that we have to put into this instead of just enjoying a new car.

2014 GLK jerking and not going into gear
My car with under 1000 miles on it is at the dealership now. Service person just said it's the 6th GLK in with this issue this week. They said it is either some kind of valve problem or they will have to reprogram my transmission. This is not normal and she said they thought there might be a recall.

My GLK is going in for its 4th transmission "re-programming" this Friday. After each visit, it works better but after a few weeks it seems to go back to being rough.
Needless to say, not impressed and tired of this. Looks like it will be the first and last MB for me. I hope there is a recall and they fix it once and for all.

Jerking transmission - 2014 GLK350
Reading this forum makes me ANGRY
I purchased a 2014 GLK350 in August 2013. In March 2014, took it in for a first repair due to a jerking transmission. The transmission was taken apart and a part was replace. In April, took it back because the transmission was still jerking. At about 7000 miles, the entire transmission was replaced. In May, took it back...still jerking. Was told that it was a "known software issue" to which there was no solution. Best case estimate was that they would have an update on the potential solution in 4-6 weeks. Was told to pick up my car because they couldn't do anything to fix it at the time. Took it back in June, still jerking. Had not been called with any info on the software update that was in the works. Mysteriously they got an "early release" - but alas, the jerking continued. Sent a buy-back request. They denied. Filed a Lemon Law claim. Went to arbitration.
Learned today that we "lost" our Lemon Law claim. Even though arbitrator acknowledged 5 repairs and condition still exists.
For a company with a brand tagline - "The Best or Nothing"....I would expect to get a car that doesn't need to have the transmission replaced at 7000 miles....or that doesn't have a "known software issue".

Me againnnnnn
So as an update I thought that I'd let you know, I waited 3 weeks for a part to be shipped in from Germany to "fix" my little trans issue.... (I stalled in the middle of a street and the car wouldn't go into any gear) and the never ending jerk shifting .... ugh. Got the part put in and the transmission reprogrammed.... 2 hours after I picked it up, called Mercedes back to get the car back in for service as now, not only did it jerk up****fing from 3-4th gear, violently jerked downshifting from 5th to 4th. I've had my car a little over a month now and it's spent 24 of those days in the shop. There isnt a fix that I have found on any of the research I have done.
Mercedes needs to buy this car back. Did I mention that 2 of the loaners they gave me had the same damn jerking issue? Ridiculous!!!! Last mercedes I will ever own. Loved my other 2. Sad day here.

Update:
Problem still not fixed. Service shop told us problem caused by having two drivers using the car. Somehow it creates problems for the memory of the transmission. Had the car driven by an independant mechanic who replicated the problem and told us that yes it is possible that the "two-drivers" thing might have a role in it. If it is true, MB salesman should have asked us how many drivers would use the car.
Approached MB Canada in Montréal and hey didn't care. Said "bring it back to the shop".
Are you guys mutliple drivers on your GLK?

2011 GLK 350 with jerky transmission
Recently had 40K mile tranny service and dealer updated software because I complained of tranny engaging slowly when shifting from reverse to drive 1st thing in AM. Vehicle is RWD, NOT the 4matic. Now there is a hard jerk and clank when tranny downshifts on uphill at ~ 30 MPH and again at ~ 10 MPH. This was not occuring prior to service.
Found this forum, a similar one for 2014 MB C300s, and one on bimmer site. On the bimmer site someone posted that they had resolved the jerking issue, at least as of their last post, by replacing solenoids. Also, noticed on 2014 MB C300 forum that there was a post from someone in Scotland reporting solenoid replacement had resolved problem, pending cold weather.
Wondering if anyone else had tried solenoid replacement with any success?
Also noticed on C300 forum that several folks were reporting new software had solved issue and was wondering if this new software would work on my 2011 GLK?

Hello, (my 2 cents)
First off, "S" mode is for Sport not Standard. Any jerkiness in the shifting usually would be associated with the "E" (Economy mode) and I don't believe it has to do with 3-4 or 4-5, it has to do where you are on the road and how fast you are going. I notice it more when I am going down hill as the car in E mode will try to slow the speed down just like when you're in cruise control and shift down to lower speed, it will try to hold the car back. I have not had it happen on straight roads, and when it does happen on hills it is not severe, just noticeable. If you don't like that, just switch to "S".

For my 2011 GLK350...I had jerky shifting at 1200 rpm to 2000 rpm....and it felt like it was in limp mode...as it didn't allow me to drive normally on the freeway and kept me below 2000 rpm. I took it to my dealer...and after almost a month in the shop...they said that the radiator leaked and the fluid got into the transmission...did a tranny flush, but the problem still persists...so they replaced the entire transmission. So I got a new radiator, new transmission, and a new air conditioning compressor....$0 cost to me as everything was under warranty.

Maher1,
Thanks for advice. I switched to "S" mode and gear change on uphill is no longer jerking.
I have a new concern though. I noticed a red light that appeared to say "Service". Not certain that's what it said as I did not have my glasses. The light was beside the position indicator (P, R, N, D) light that is next to the shifter. It went away when the vehicle was turned off and it has not reappeared. There is no mention of it in the owner's manual either and there are no messages in the multi-function display. Any idea what this could be?

Interesting thread and potentially worrying for some GLK owners....
However, please keep in mind that for the 2013 my and onwards, the GLK has a different transmission, these transmissions rectified some of the teething issues of the 7G transmission as well as extending service intervals to 70k, up from 40k.
So when looking at these issues, please do differentiate between the model years, otherwise the dealers are not going to be too impressed with owners going mad over the wrong transmission.
With that said, the occasional rough shifting can be multiple things, one thing to check on vehicles of 2010, 11, 12 years at this age are the flex joints in the driveline. These can (and do) go hard and can cause unnecessary vibrations and shock transfer through the chassis that otherwise would not be felt. The parts are not too expensive and it is a relatively straight forward job if you work on cars.
Other issues with the 7G an also be attributed to the torque converter, although these issues should have been ironed out back in 06-08.
With that said, our 2013 GLK 350 4 Matic just had a full transmission service and 2 control valves replaced under warranty due to slipping in 7th.

I had both my 2014 E550's bought back by benz -- ultimately I got all my cash back and a few months later I wanted a 2014 E63S and benz gave me a hot incentive on a new E63S.
the rest, as they say, is history as my new E63S has no clunk.. and it's essentially a 7G-tronic beefed up a bit with a wet clutch...

I'm replying because my wife's 2014 GLK 350 AWD does this and I want to know I can find this thread if I need it. I have logged complaints at the 10k and 20k service intervals. They say they reset the software. My wifes 2013 GLK 350 AWD, which had a ton of issues and they took it back, did not have this one. Butter smooth shifting........
