LED factory option taillight for 2010 non-LED vehicle
Hi, I am new here and I tried doing a search, seems like couple threads already talked about it but at the end there wasn't any conclusion..... somehow all threads shifted the discussion to the headlight.......
So just like the header, is it do-able (direct plug and play) or it is going to involve a lot more? Has anyone done it and can you provide some info on how? Again, I am looking to buy the factory LED tail light assembly set for 2010 and swap out the halogen set.
Thank you very very much!!!

Apparently it is much more complicated than the hopeful plug & play. Controller(s) have to be considered for the lamps so the wiring harness is different too. I read up on this very topic recently & decided it was not worth the trouble. Next GLK will have the optional light upgrade which includes the LED tail lamps.

I'm wondering if you can't figure out the resistance the ECU wants to see and then wire in the LED lamp kit. There might be some aftermarket kits somewhere that do the math and sell you a plug and play combo. I have also seen LED replacement twist in bulbs for tail lights on eBay too. Not quite a nice as the full panel but easy to do.

The connector looks the same from some pictures I was looking at. I suspect no one has actually tried it yet, seems everyone is just speculating. I would love to know as well. I've been interested in a tail light swap since I got my 2010. If you do try it please let us know.

From what I have read, if the LEDs replace the std. bulbs, the LEDs flash too fast & a resistor has to be added to the circuit. Another complicating factor!

That is what I thought too, I thought the plug (harness) is the same, just not sure if the pin are aligned though. Adding a resister even for the factory LED set isn't hard.... takes < 1 min because the LED wire on the tail light is actually hanging out. My biggest concern is the harness.
