I'm taking a guess as to what your direct question is however I believe you're asking why you went through a quarter of a tank of gas in just 82 miles?
Since I'm a 2014 GLK owner and drive about 70+ miles per work day, I get about 19mpg on my vehicle. I'm a bit of a lead foot however my lifetime average is 17.8. I did some basic math here based on your statement. I took the 82.4 miles x's 4 which would equal the max fuel distance in your tank based on your driving. This gave me 330 miles to your tank of fuel. If you take that and divide it by your fuel tank capacity (17.4 gallons) you'd end up with 18.9 miles per gallon. Most car manufacturers base the fuel gauge "E" level to give you approx .5 to .7 of a gallon still in reserve for all the people that procrastinate stopping for gas until "E". If you take that into equation you'd end up with 19 - 19.7 miles per gallon.
It appears to me that your tank is pretty darn close to accurate based on what I'm calculating.
I hope my math helps you gain a little understanding here... Feel free to check my work as I threw this together rather quickly.
This was an awesome question though because I'll now be watching my gauge for accuracy tomorrow.

I would go and fill it up when it says 3/4 and see how close it is. You don't sound that far off actually. Not sure there's a calibration available. I suspect there's a sender and fuel pump assembly in the tank that isn't quick or easy to check.

The tank is 17 gallons (not sure if they made it bigger on newer models). At 20mpg you would have used about 1/4 after driving 80miles.
