2013 GLK Nav/radio issue

Hello - I have been lurking here for quite a while and always seem to read good info. So, we have our first issue with our 2013 GLK - have had it for 10 months almost 12K miles of perfect operation. Today, moved it around in the driveway and gave it a wash. Went to move it back and the NAV/radio screen will not turn on. Shut the car off and even tried my wife's fob with no results - no voice command or anything works. Anyone had this issue? We live 200 miles from our dealer which is the closest MB dealer so I want to be informed if possible when I go there. Thanks for any responses. RTBANDMAN

A gaggle of MB's
Sure - make sure you call your dealer 1st bwefore you go in - dead COMAND diagnosis/electrical check - then warran ty replacement of the head unit if required - but the COMAND unit will need to be ordered in.

Keep the beat !

Nav/radio issue

THanks for the reply fabbrisd1 - chapter 2 -after 3 different tries of starting the car yesterday and having no luck, everything worked fine today! Will still be calling the service dept to see if there should be an issue.

I have had a similar problem that happens only twice a year since 2010. I will have driven somewhere and all was fine. Returned to the truck and had no Nav screen, Radio ect. Driving for 10 or so minutes does not bring the screen back. Stop and restarting does not bring it back. Turn off the truck, wait 10 minutes and restart and all is great for another 6 months to a year. Dealer could not find problem with such intermittent occurrence. I think it has to do with the boot record of the processor getting glitched and the wait does a full power down reset where all the ram is discharged, like restarting your computer when an initial boot fails for no apparent reason. It actually happened once when I picked up the truck from the dealer after regular service and took it 1 mile to a sandwich shop to get something to eat. Came out of the shop, started the truck, no Screen. Drove right back to the dealer, but all the mechanics had gone home. Turned off the truck and 10 minutes later no problem. Short of replacing the Nav system, I don't know what else would fix this problem. And even then it might be an electrical spike from something else. As I am way out of warranty, and it happens only once a year or so, I just shut it down and go get a Starbucks. When I come out everything is fine

Problems like that can sometimes be solved by purposely doing a reboot. Disconnect battery for about 15 min then reconnect. This will reboot the main ECU and perhaps teh Command system too?

On other Benzes we have owned, we would then have to re-enter a radio security code. But I have not seen any radio code on the GLK?

Nav/radio issue

Thanks for the info guys - it has been working normal - this is my wife's car and its driven daily so hopefully it will be a random deal. She traded in was an 05 C230 - when it was new, we drove away from an service appointment and the radio didnt work - after shutting the car off, the radio of course came back on so we are somewhat used to this. Otherwise, we have had no issues with our GLK and really like it!
