Replacement windshield cost
Well, our GLK is 2 months old and it's already time for a replacement windshield. Can anyone give us an idea of what both OE and after market glass are going for?
I tried searching through the forum but didn't have a ton of luck.

I also need a new windshield but am afraid to do so with a 3rd party after seeing them "saw" the old windshield out of a friend's toyota with some metallic string. It left marks on the A-pillar cloth inside and I don't want any of that. I would also like a recommendation for a quality job to have the windshield replaced with approx. cost if anyone has done it

I have several new windshield over the past 20 years. Usually it is covered by your insurance. It seems the dealers have someone like Safelite do the job as they are equipped with the proper handling systems and glues. My wife's 280 C had it done in the parking lot of where she worked. I suspect your insurace covers the glass fully or for a $50 co-pay.

Emi - that had nothing to do with it being an aftermarket job. That was just a bad installer. OE and after market glass are installed in 100% identical fashion.
bop - Glass insurance is extremely expensive, at least here in Alberta. On the GLK it was something like $800 more per year.

I just had my GLK windshield replaced last month. Definitely get the OE windshield. The aftermarket windshield does not fit as well, and needs more adjustments to make it fit the GLK properly. The rain sensor sometimes does not work properly with aftermarket windshields too.

I have an appointment with Safelite to replace my second windshield. They allow me to insist on the Guardian OEM glass. They also admit their stock doesn't include any non OEM or foreign glass at the moment.
I also have to pay a $250 deductible again. Not happy but can't live with a long crack either.
Not sure but I think California law let's you insist on OEM parts if desired. The $250 is my personal auto policy with Liberty Mutual. I'm not sure if I can buy a lower deductible. I might check after this.

For a 2010 GLK (I assume it's the same windshield across model years though thus far)...
August 2012 - Crystal Glass quoted me for windshield and installation $506.75 + tax, and the molding another $18.00 + tax.
June 2013 - I went to GlassMasters (Alberta) and paid $317.57 all in, rain sensor included.
I noticed after the first month sometimes the wipers would activate without any moisture, but it has been normal since.

My insurance company is charging me only $25. extra per year for glass insurance on the GLK per year, but with a $250 deductible. Still, not a bad deal.

We just picked up our 2014 GLK250 last week. Our insurance company (Esurance) has the vehicle with $0 glass coverage, 1k collision, comprehensive, etc at $161.34 for a 6month policy. Really happy to have moved out of the Notheast with its sky-high insurance rates! Since moving to Arizona we've had 2 windshields replaced, and in both instances we went to a local establishment of our choosing.

ANTENNA IN WINDSHIELD?
In searching for a new windshield for my GLK-350 one dealer replied they only have one without the antenna. Is anybody familiar with which years have the antenna in the windshield? AND, what is this antenna for?

We did end up getting glass coverage anyway $52 a year with $100 deduct.) but now I'm wondering if it was worth it... $320 is super cheap.
