iPhone 5S in 2012 GLK

Last week I purchased a CPO 2012 GLK, with COMAND and Multimedia package. iPod cord in the center console is 30 pin, so I purchased the adapted to use iPhone 5. When I plug in, device will charge, but on Multimedia Interface tab of audio, get message that says "Device Not Compatible".

Took it back to the dealership, who has had it for a full week, and all they have managed to tell me is that the interface is compatible with iPods only and not iPhones, which is simply not true based on the research I've done. What are they missing so I can point them in the right direction? Did the 2012 GLKs still need the Media Interface Plus (MIP) accessory to play audio from iPhones?

Also, they told me that the 2012 GLK didn't have the capability to stream audio via Bluetooth, which I'm also thinking isn't true based on research I've done.

Please help me help this incompetent dealership.

This part is correct; the 2010-2012 GLK is not able to stream BT audio from any device. You'd think a 2012 would be able to do so but the technology was quite dated when all these were new.

M-B sells a device for around $300 that allows you to stream but when I looked into this 1+ year ago it was not compatible with the iphone5. This may be different now. Talk to your M-B parts dept.

Good luck.

My dealer was clueless about iPhones, too, when I got my 2011...

i have a 2010 glk, it didn't come with the ipod interface, but I had the dealer put it in (fo free!) when I bought it. it came with the 30 pin in the glove compartment.

once I went to iphone5 with the new lightning connector we just bought the 30 to lightning adapter ($30 T.T) and it worked just the same.

it might be that it is just so old that it works with anything, instead of specifically ipods. also we can't stream BT either.

not sure if that helps...

My wife & I bought new iPhone 5s on March 15. We also bought the Lightning-30 pin adapter for the 30 pin connector in the console of our 2012 GLK 350 delivered in November, 2011.
So far:
Bluetooth phone connection: Works perfectly after we deleted our old Blackberrys from the Bluetooth register.
Contacts from the iPhone 5s: Haven't thought to look. Shame on me.
Music synced from computer to iPhone via iTunes: Works fine. The iPhones charge & I can select music through the COMAND screen. I will admit that I don't remember which device I selected on the COMAND screen.
One complaint: We both bought Tech21 cases for the phones. The Lightning-30 pin adapter doesn't connect with the cases on the phones. Stupid Apple! I have seen adapters online that separate the Lightning plug from the 30 pin plug with a short piece of cable. That would work with the case on. For now, we remove the case and plug the adapter into the phone.
It is nice to finally be able to use our phones with the built in cable and COMAND interface.

Sorry to bump old thread. As an alternative to the Mercedes Media Interface plus, does anyone think that a Kinivo BTC450 plugged into the AUX would enable BlueTooth audio streaming from a Pandora iPhone app? This would go in a 2012 GLK350. Thank You in advance for any feedback. Product page:
