Automatic Trunk issue.
Yesterday I got a beautiful GLK 250 with Premium package. Extremely happy so far!
Among myriad of gadgets salesman demonstrated me how the automatic trunk (with Premium package) will smartly react and retract from closing if there is an obstacle. Placed accidentally or not (!).
But I just found that it doesn’t work opposite way. When the trunk is opening. Sadly!
My car was parked in the underground garage at my condo and I pushed wrong button on my smart key. Right button, instead of left.
I jumped between the wall and the car and prevented the scratch. Whoohooo!
But what I did noticed that the trunk door was not retracting and I have to use some force to close it.
One would think it should retract and maybe even use the sensors and if it is too close don’t even open the trunk with exception of actually pushing the button on a trunk door.
I am thinking to glue something on a wall to avoid such stupid mistakes.
Any suggestions?
Can one disable remote trunk opening feature on one of the smart keys?
Or disable the feature altogether. For example if I will go away on a business trip for few days and have to give the keys to my superintendent.

Park nose in first? There is no way of limiting your trunk from not opening at all. Not sure why you use the remote regardless. The closing/opening function of the door handles is awesome.

This happened to me as well but thank good the thing that I hit is just a plastic garbage container (no scratches) What my solution is I bought a door edge protector trim with the 3m tape and installed it on the trunk edge. You don't really notice it and it will protect your trunk edge from incidents like that.

However, on 2010 the trunk won't open unless you push and hold for a few seconds as opposed to the unlocking button, which works with a simple push.

From page 85 of the owner's manual:
"You can limit the opening angle of the
tailgate. This is possible in the top half of its
opening range, up to approximately 8 in
(20 cm) before the stop.
This could be useful, for example, if there is
insufficient space above the tailgate.
! Make sure there is sufficient clearance to
open the tailgate fully when setting the
opening angle. The tailgate could otherwise
be damaged. Ideally, set the opening angle
outside.
Activating
X To open the tailgate: pull the handle on
the tailgate.
X To stop the opening procedure at the
desired position: press the closing button
(Y page 83) in the tailgate or pull the handle
on the outside of the tailgate again.
X To store the position: press and hold the
closing button in the tailgate until you hear
a short tone.
The opening angle limiter is activated. The
tailgate will now stop in the stored position
when opening.
i To open the tailgate fully, pull the handle
on the outside of the tailgate again after it
has stopped automatically. This does not
delete the stored position.
Deactivating
X Press and hold the closing button
(Y page 83) in the tailgate until you hear
two short tones."

It's very easy to set a lower limit - we had to adjust this as the fully extended hatch would strike our open garage door otherwise.
Just open the hatch and press and hold the closing button at the top limit of where you feel comfortable - you'll hear a beep inside the vehicle to confirm the setting.

Almost f***ed up my rear hatch and thought of this post.
Yesterday She Who Must Be Obeyed mentioned that she had bought dog food and it needed to be brought in (50 lb bags).
Since we both back in too close to open the rear gaet I pulled uot far enough to open it up, took out the dogg food, and started to pull back in WITHOUT CLOSING THE GATE!
Thankfully I am addicted to my back-up cam and when I glanced at it I saw the ceiling instead of the floor and stopped well in time.
That would have been an expensive fix...
