Question 2014 GLK-350 Engine Sound at Idle

Noticed that the engine sounded a little louder than I expected when it was at idle, almost like the GLK-250 diesel noise which has that loud "tick tick" sound....

Anybody have any clips of their engine noise?

What are some of the opinions of how this engine sounds when you turn the car on?

Just seemed a little louder than I expected so I wanted to check with other forum members to see their opinions...

Have 75 miles on the car now and absolutely LOVING it so far!

Pics to come...

That noise is characteristic of direct-injection engines - fuel is injected into each intake valve individually, as opposed to dumping it into the intake plenum. More power, better fuel consumption, but a bit more noise.

Compare the specs on the 3.5 liter V6 used in the '10s-'12s, with the direct-injection version of the same engine from 2013 on. The earlier engines are quieter, but the new ones make much more power while using less fuel.

thanks for the reply JRCT - this makes perfect sense and thank you for enlightening/reassuring me.

I have only had the V-6 on my c350 so this is my first experience with direct injection in line 6 cylinder engine, it is definitely noiser but I like the tradeoffs
