[SOLVED] X204 Windshield wipers

Hi all,

I was wondering. Dealership offers some rough prices for "original" wipers (a pair for 95$).

I was looking through ebay and found some OEM's (some made by Bosch) for as low as 24-30 $.

But even though most of them state x204 compliant, I'm uncertain of their sizes.

Anyone have any info about the x204 wipers? sizes, recommended product, aftermarkets, etc?

Thanks

Ok so I found the time to dig into this one, so for future reference:

This is a product that ought to fit. I made a purchase and once delivered I'll give it a try and report back in: www.ebay.com/itm/171150684769

In general, the wipers sizes are 22" for the drivers side and 18"" for the passanger side.

HOWEVER! I've had issues with my old car, Audi Q5, not accepting any aftermarket "General" design wipers (even though they were the same size). Something to do with the plastic housing that connects the wiper to the metalic movable arm.

I had to order specific wipers with specific housing design.

As said, once received i'll report back again.

The housing really is the important issue that pops up with aftermarket. I've bought some big box one-size-fits all crap, and the connectors were too fat such that the blade housing didn't fit within the metal connector all the way on the GLK.

I seem to recall the rain-x replacements I bought, which might I add, really aren't very good, were sizes 22" and 19". So i'm wondering why your source is recommending one that's 1" shorter.

Several sources actually. In fact here is the first time I read its 19". Could it be the manufactured year of the car? mine is 2014 and the recommended 22/18 is for 2008 and above.

Strange. Well, it was already shipped so we'll have to wait and see 1" could make a difference (drastic in my case, mild case of perfectionistic OCDism ).

I'll report as they are installed!

Thank you guys for the input.

@mbzusr - happened to me with the Q5 as I mentioned. Any of them "FITS ALL" brand are just crap, as most luxurious cars just make their own standards and I guess they keep changing that (because eventually its simply a mold which can be recreated with every model).

Thats why I looked for specific X204 designated models.

I bought the Costco ones (I can't remember the name right now) but I was told they were great...they were NOT!!!

They wipe rain off the windshield fine, but very very noisy! had to take them off they were bothering so much.

there is nothing like the original OEM wiper blades...

had to re install the old ones until the new OEM blades came in...just find some on ebay for $50...its expensive but they do last forever...Ive had mine for 2 years in miami where it rains constantly...they are smooth and just lately have been showing signs of wear...so I replaced it with OEM ones on ebay.

I have had the Rain-X blades on ours now for a couple of years & they work fine. Then again, it rarely rains out here. Windshields hereabouts do get pitted easily. I have polished the glass a couple of times & that may make a difference. If I have to replace the blades, I would consider replacing them with a pair of OEM only IF the inserts could be purchased separately as with our BMW. Now the rear blade is another story altogether. To make it look right requires the OEM blade imo.

I just measured the blades on our 2011 GLK and they are 19" passenger's side and 22" driver's side.

Sure thing! Got my wipers the other day. They came with a housing that looked similar but didn't really fit.

However, playing a little with the old wipers I was able to remove the housing (the original ones) and install them on the new wipers. This allowed for a quick and easy installation.

One thing I've not found out how to do - bring the wipers into installation position. In my old Audi there was a computerize option that would automatically bring the wipers up. I couldn't find any in the GLK (or on an ML) so I manually moved the wipers upwards - being careful not to fight against any mechanical resistance. It was really quite intuitive yet I do believe there should be an option for that...

Anyways, once the wipers are upward (meaning, they're not covered by the engine cover), you just turn the wiper 180 degrees (the wiper itself, turn it 180" around the arm that holds it) and simply slide it out (it has a vertical axis that is blocking the slide once the wiper is fixed and allows simple sliding once you twist it 180").

Changed the housing. Bam.

New wipers, working great. less than 18$ (inc. shipping).

Hope this helps folks!

IMAGE 1: Original Housing - Needs to be removed from old wipers and installed on new ones. It requires a little amount of force to presuade them out - but its just a "click" away:

IMAGE 2: The removal of the wipers (once you guys find a way to automatically bring the wipers into installation position - I did that manually) - 1 twist it 180" upwards, 2 slide it toward the windshield.

Anyone know how to take the entire wiper off. This way I can put it back on so that the wiper is lower and out of sight. Hopefully this would stop wind noise at high speed.

How do you remove the casing from the OEM wiper?
I bought the Bosch 4922 Insight from Amazon.
I am not sure if I installed them correctly.
I thought I just insert it to one of the holes on the Bosch.
It seems too simple, maybe that is, but there are one other holes and other parts. I am not sure if I have done it correctly...

actually there is a gap between the GLK metal locking plate and the bosch adapter. So the blade is not stable on the wiper.. I am not sure what to do with it..
The sidelock is longer when Bosch blade is installed. So the blade will move long the sidelock during operation.
I think the OEM housing has to be installed on it to fit into the sidelock which ensures the blade to fit still.
But I can't remove it from the OEM blade...or don't know how to do it exactly.
I am afraid of breaking it.
How do you remove it?

I did have a set of aftermarket blades for a couple of years. The adaptor made the blades ride higher or stick out more which the Mrs. did not like. Function was fine, no death wobbles but form not so good. With our 50K service the OEM were installed & the pair do look much better. They even have a little star on each one in white! The rear blade from my research has to be OEM.

They are here for 46, Bosch are slightly less. They are basically the same wipers, just one has the Mercedes sign. I do think that OEM lasted a bit longer and worked better, but it can due to conditions.

After trying many different wipers, the OEM are the best IMO, just don't use rain-x. That stuff ruins the wipers.

What GLK were you installing on the 11 or 13. Not sure if the wipers are any different one to the other...
