Rocker panels

Had the pleasure of driving a 2014 GLK last week when our 2010 was in the shop. Liked all of the upgrades over the earlier models. Vehicle was equipped with the H-K option which was enjoyable. Vehicle also had the AMG option. After a day of many times in & out of the car, I noticed the rocker panel was different than ours. First thought was it was changed in 2013 with the refresh as the rocker panels had been the subject of complaints posted here.
Did some research & what I found was interesting. The AMG option has a different rocker panel than those without! Went through the parts catalog from 2010 thru 2014 & the part numbers ran consistent so no change in 2013. The different rocker panels do require a different support too. My thoughts are that if you combined the AMG style rocker panel with a set of splash guards the problem with contacting the rocker panel would disappear.
Hope this information is of help to those who struggle with the standard rocker panels.

So now I have managed to utterly confuse myself. Reviewed my loaner contract & discovered the vehicle I was in last week is a 2015 & not a 2014 (10th digit is the letter "F"). Not even certain the vehicle had the AMG Pkg. Of course the 2015 parts are not out on the Internet to peruse so my two questions are as follows:
Did MB change the rocker panel design for 2015?
What is the difference between the earlier years of the AMG & the standard trim?
Any thoughts & comments are appreciated!

Called the dealership today & gave them the VIN of the rental car. Does not have the AMG pkg. trim. Part numbers are different on the 2015 for the inner & outer pieces than the earlier years. Still no answer on what is different on the earlier models. A little light at the end of the tunnel but no idea if the 2015 will fit on the earlier years. Oh well.
