rain sensing wiper gone nuts

this has happened before , the wipers come on when I start the car for 1 wipe with the windshield dry. Then after 5 or so starts it stops coming on. Any ideas? I have a 2010 Glk 350 with 38000 miles.

turn off you wipers? or are they off?
If they are in auto mode, you may have something where the sensor area is. I think even light can trip the sensor.

When my wipers are in auto, they go ballistic sometimes for a few seconds.

I think his point is even in the auto mode he doesn't expect the wipers to activate when the windshield is totally dry.

FWIW, I usually keep mine in auto as well and have never experienced this...
