Question Another (stupid) question...

My GLK was picked up today but I am perplexed at it's lighting setup. In the two attached pix, I have placed arrows illustrating one questionable light (looks like a bright halogen bulb) and another within a cylindrical plastic tube. My manual is in French (not my native tongue) and the google translations used are not clear enough for me. Thanks in advance.

Very very slow
Congrats on your new ride.

Looks like you a lighting package on your car.
The light from picture 1 is corner light.
It will turn on when you turn on the signal or goes around the corner at low speed.
Btw, it's not a stupid question at all.

Thx BLE2716. I did not know cornering lights existed. So do you think cornering lights are more for slow manoeuvres like parking opposed to driving at faster speeds like highways? Is the second shot showing my highbeams as there is no difference to my eyes when he light stalk is pushed for high beam or not.

Cornering lights are for slow driving, so you can see when making 90 degreed turn on a dark street.

The second light is just a running light.

High-beam is the same light as low-beam since you have bi-xenons.
Your main lights also swivel during turns at higher speed to illuminate the bends.

That makes for one expensive, over-engineered running light then! Would love to find a 2011 CAN brochure to see what this baby has/has not got.

W204 C63 Coupe, W166 ML350 BlueTEC, 928GT, C5 Z06 & IS300 race cars, EQE 4Matic+ on order
First light assists with cornering and illuminates when you turn the steering wheel. It's a lot simpler, cheaper and more elegant to implement from an engineering standpoint than adaptive HIDs where the whole assembly has to move.

The second one is just a DRL.

At first, turn it on in instrument cluster in light settings! I love this option together with swivelling bi-xenons...

The "running" light is also a fill-in light to fill in the areas close to the vehicle that are not illuminated by the Bi's. This has been around since early 2000's when MB when to the Bi Xenon's with the mechanical low beam cutoff.
