reprogramming Smart Key?

I was wondering if anyone has bought an aftermarket smart key and had it programmed with any success? I have read some conflicting stories saying that you can only get keys from the dealer?

You are correct about the dealer monopoly.

I understand that dealers will not program aftermarket Keys, but can they reprogram legitimate (previously used) Mercedes-made Keys to operate in another Mercedes?

A gaggle of MB's
Mercedes Corp has strict security protocols all US dealer must follow - violation is up to $15K fine per individual instance - Yes, dealers cannot program "aftermarket" keys.. not that there is such a thing - and NO, dealers cannot reprogram one "used" key into a key for another vehicle..
