New Canadian 2015 GLK owner with questions

Hi I am a new owner of a 2015 GLK blutec here in Canada. My question is what is the circular opening in the grill for ? I took a picture for all to see as I am puzzled as to what it is for? Block heater cord maybe?

X2 for the tow hook. When we moved to Oregon, and had to add a front plate, I got a plate frame, and mounting kit from Craven Speed in Portland that used the tow hook to eliminate the need to drill holes in the front grill, bumper fascia.

You got me interested. I actually went out to garage and checked our GLK250 out (we are in Canada too)

There is nothing inside that hole. Just a flat piece of plastic with no hole or attachment for anything. I took a closeup pic.

We have a block heater - it is below the lower passenger side light. Also shown in a pic below.

Ask your dealer what that hole is for.

What does it screw into? - see picture above.

The owners manual has a section on this. It is not exactly clear, but it sounds like we have to push inwards through that hole in order to release the piece of grill that the hole is in. With the grill off, it should expose the thread for the towing eye.

Does this sound right?

Has anyone actually done this?

ADDED: GLK needed washing today, so while I was about it decided to look at that hole. It is as I guessed above. You put your finger in and use as a pull hole. The small piece of grille comes out and inside, there is a threaded boss for the towing eye.

Grille hinges at right side exposing the towing eye boss.
