New GLK owner - extended warranty question.

New GLK owner - extended warranty question.
Just picked up a 2013 GLK350 4Matic today with 30K miles. Still have 2 years total of warranty (original + CPO). Was offered additional 2 years extended warranty for $2500. So that's $1250/yr for year 3 and 4 which should be between 50K - 70K miles. We took it. Seems like a no brainer right?

If you are in the US - 1st year CPO makes the warranty Unlimited Mileage out to full 5yrs from original in-service date original owner, and yes a added 2yrs CPO for Unlimited Mileage for full 7yrs from original in-service date original owner.
So for peace of mind - you are covered - remember your CPO warranty is linked to the original owner purchase date - not the date you purchased the CPO.
If you were to sell/trade your GLK before expiration of the original 1yr CPO - then you would be due full refund on the $2495.. if you were to sell/trade after your added 2yr CPO kicks in - then refund would be pro-rated by remaining time on the 2yrs LESS any paid CPO warranty claims for that period.
Keep the beat !

Yes in the US and thanks for confirming how I understood it.
In service date was August 2012 so original and CPO ends August 2017. Then the 2 additional years kick in till August 2019. For 1250/yr, thought that was worth the peace of mind.

Depends...IMO those things are never worth it. If anything, I would look for cheaper options (i.e. Fidelity plan or under insurance). You would have an idea if you have a trouble car or now over 2 years. Basically, you are betting that something expensive will break in year 3 or 4 and not later (no warranty) or sooner (other warranty) and will cost more than $2500 to fix. But if you are after piece of mind, then why not.
IMO, you either have something defective, which will brake under warranty, or something will brake from age after extended warranty expires.
I bought my car new and refused extended warranty. One thing (dead command screen) was fixed under warranty early on. Now I'm passed year 6 of my ownership and car is as good as Toyota. If the car starts having troubles, I will simply trade it in.

Our experiences:
-We bought the extended warranty on our 98 E320, bought in 2001. Had a few small issues while under warranty that MBCanada looked after. Probably about a break even.
We bought a 2006 smart cdi in 2009. Only paid $7500, so declined the extended warranty. Had clutch fail after out of warranty. Cost us $2000 to repair (about same as an extended warranty). Repair lasted 5 days, but was guaranteed by dealer for 1 year. After several other attempts, costing dealer/MBCanada over $5k, car was finally repaired. Would have paid us to have had extended warranty.
In order to guaranty our long term costs, we bought extended warranty and service plan with our 2014 GLK (instead of expensive options!) Basically ensures that everything (except tires and brakes?) are covered for 7 years.
One thing to know, is that items considered to be part of emission system have longer coverage than the initial 4 years. This can include expensive items like the engine module and catalysts. Corrosion also has longer than 4yr coverage.
Unlike our old Benzes, modern cars including GLK are now so complex, and repairs and parts so expensive, that $3k for extended warranty, although very expensive insurance, probably is a no-brainer if you want peace of mind.
Otherwise lease or trade before original warranty runs out.
Or buy a used car for much less money and put the savings in the bank to cover future repairs.

Mercedes at time of purchase makes it "easy" to buy a MB extended warranty at time of purchase - often with "zero interest" addition to a MBFS note. If sold/traded before htting that extended warranty - refund back to you in full - takes about 5-6 weeks for refund after sale/trade - some consider this option "parking future refund/cash".
Owner's can buy extended warranty at the cost quoted at time of purchase up to 30 days from original date of purchase - but it can't be added back into a MBFS note - so it is a out-of-pocket expense.
Owner's can also choose to buy extended MB warranty coverage - up to the day/last-mile your existing warranty expires - this is out-of-pocket expense - and Mercedes quotes a 15% surcharge for that - MB charges dealers 5% more on that warranty later warranty purchase.
Just trying to be helpful - keep the beat !

We also bought a 2013 model, and chose the extended warranty. I bought piece of mind and am fine if I never use it! I never buy the extended on a brand new car, but usually do on a preowned and have never regretted.

Does anyone know if the 2 year extended warranty on GLK is the a standard price across the board? I bought a gently used 1 year old 2014 GLK with very low miles and 3 year left on the original factory warranty. Got an additional year of Certified Pre-Owned warranty (comes with it) but the price I paid ($2000) for an extra year seems a little high. I thought that a 2 year extended was a standard price at $2495, Do prices differ from dealer to dealer?

Heard $2495 for a two year extension many times - I think this number is pretty standard. Possible to get it lower as part of negotiating tactics with selling dealer.

If bought outright - or warranty paid outright - refund of unused extended warranty comes back to you - about 6 weeks.
If financed - yes - cancelation gets credited to the lendor - which shortens the term/#-of-payments taken off the end of the note.

We paid $1945 for 2 yrs of extended warranty for our 2013 GLK. Bought from the Austin dealership over the phone (we bought our vehicle in SJ from Autonation).
Price was quoted pretty high with Smythe Auto (Autonation) so we shopped around online and found a better price from the Austin TX dealership.

The CPO warranty is good value imo.
The dealers do have a fair bit of wiggle room, we paid 1850 for our 2 year extended warranty and rolled this into the overall finance.
Speak with your dealer finance guy and explain that you have been offered the CPO warranty from another dealer for a better price. Any dealer can apply the CPO warranty to your vehicle, especially before delivery (i.e. a CPO car that is in stock). So most dealers are willing to negotiate a little harder so they make the commission as opposed to another dealer.
Either way, it represents excellent value as with unlimited miles, zero deductible and courtesy cars etc. at dealers it's easily the best one out there.

2013 GLK250 Bluetec
Just traded in my 08 E350 Sport for a '13 CPO GLK 250. Bought the extra 2 yrs for 2495. Since I put on about 50,000 miles annually, and MBZ now has unlimited miles on their warranty, it essentially made them the only manufacturer I could do business with at that level of confidence. Was thinking of jumping ship to a new Explorer but that warranty (and the diesel's gas mileage) made the case for another Benz.
