Yup - that's exactly it. That particular oil was pretty much designed specifically for the new MB diesels (I think it only has the MB 229.31/.51/.52 builder approvals).
Oh sure... just pour some canola oil in there and you're good to go.
If you don't know what you're talking about, please refrain from giving wrong advice on the forums. The MB Bluetec engines all have DPFs and all require ESP olis at a minimum, so MB *APPROVED* 229.51 or preferrably 229.52 spec oils are the only ones you can run without killing your rather expensive exhaust aftertreatment system. And, if you look at the viscosity charts for the GLK 250, unless you live in the middle of the Sahara desert you probably want to stick with a 5W-30 (or again, preferrably) 0W-30 oil. The M1 ESP Formula 5W-30 was actually formulated for gasoline engines (it even says so right on the bottle) despite the ESP and MB 229.51 approval, while the M1 0W-30 (that has both 229.51 & 229.52 approvals) is the best one for the application in the Bluetec GLK 250. This is what the bottle looks like:
If it's not on the MB 229.51 or 229.52 approved list at BeVo AND isn't the proper viscosity, don't put it in your GLK 250. MB 229.52 approved oils don't - can't - exist in a xW-40 viscosity. It's too thick by definition.
The only thing Amsoil has going for it is film shear strength and anti-wear additives. While this is useful in gasoline race engines where the ambient temperatures are always in the "t-shirt" range and the oil only has to last 300 km before you dump it, these same characteristics make it inherrently unsuitable for use in a modern MB diesel enigne. And, don't confuse Amsoil's marketing jargon - "designed for use in engines requiring [insert desired spec] oils" with "has the following BUILDER APPROVALS" [insert desired spec]. Only the second actually means that the oil was approved for use in your enigne. The first is a slimy and underhanded marketing tactic.

Er - did you notice that there are only three oils listed on the very link that you posted (one of which is no longer available - the 5W-40 - and that only the other two (the xW-30) oils say "Formulated to protect diesel and gasoline emission systems") and that none of them are a 0W-40 weight?
I hate to break it to you, but it's not a matter of opinion. There's a lot of science that goes into making the proper lubricant for a particular engine, and contrary to your opinion, there is no 0W-40 ESP oil on NA shores - whether it's Mobil, Castrol, Shell/Pennzoil/Quaker State or any other brand - that will not clog up the DPF filters and bugger up the exhaust after-treatment system on a MB Bluetec. There may have been some MB 229.51 approved 0W-40 oils in the past that you could have bought and run in southern Turkey or Malaysia where it may have been reasoanble to do so because of the climate, but not any longer. The M1 ESP 0W-30 is about as thick on the top end as the old ESP 0W-40 was (there's plenty of stuff on BITOG if you're interested), so all eight formulations that were ever made world-wide in that viscosity are now gone.
And, on a personal note, it would probably serve you better to accept and admit when you've made a mistake and learn from it - G-d knows I've certainly made enough of them - instead of letting your ego get in the way. That way madness lies.

My original post was basically saying to just go and get the oil that was posted above (my error that I mistyped 5-30 rather than 5-40) so that everyone didn't have to think so much about an issue that has been beaten to death by oil experts on various forums. You have to take it to a personal level.

Your original post said "Just get some 5-40 Mobil" and then you wrote "0-40 is perfectly ok as are others". NEITHER OF THOSE TWO IS OK for the GLK 250 (they are OK for your gasoline-powered 350, but not for the diesel 250).
And, you are now making my point... seeing as the oil experts agree with what I was saying, not you. And, I certainly didn't take anything personally - I merely pointed out your mistake, and you got all defensive about it. Anyway - I don't have anythign to prove to anyone, nor do I wish to take this any further than it has already gone. Use whatever you want in your motor. I only took issue with you advising the OP to use first one and then another oil, neither of which is suitable for his application. You made no mention of ESP, the low-SAPS MB approvals or anythign of the sort. Had you said in either of your posts "ooops - I meant ESP 5W-30" or something along those lines, we would not be indulging in finger-pointing and wasting everyone's time.
If you want to talk about oils, I am always open to discussion and constructive criticism - after all, I wasn't born knowing what I do - but this is neither kindergarten nor the place for a pissing contest, so I am bowing out of this particular exchange.
