Long trip, but comfortable.
I just can't rave enough about the comfort of our GLK. My wife and I just completed a trip to Tucson and back from central California. We drove down in one day and back in one day (11.5 hours and 12.5 hours). Between the delightful road manners, quiet cabin and very comfortable seats, we did not get sore and the fatigue at the end of the day was light. We've never had a car that treated us so nice on long trips.
We averaged well over 24 MPG for the entire trip. Due to the closure of I-10 (bridge collapse), we detoured north to Kingman, AZ, then west on highway 40. Saw temperatures as high as 106. AC was more than adequate.
We treated our faithful GLK to a nice bath at a local car wash (hand wash), so you would have no clue it's been anywhere.

I might be doing a similar trip in August from Tucson to Lake Tahoe to Sequoia Nat'l. Park & home. The quiet & comfort of the GLK as you mentioned is less tiring after a long day.

You are not alone. I returned back home 1500 km on mountainous roads and dead boring highways from Montreal to Toronto and back again with zero backaches, zero discomfort. Superb handling and smooth ride on rough and smooth tarmac. I have no regrets getting my used 2012 GLK at all. I am 6'2" and a "sturdy frame " and there is plenty of seat support and movement for the excursion.
